So weve arrived, touched down, made it... HELLO CALIFORNIA!!
It is currently 5am whilst im writing this and the the first time in my life ive ever really suffered from jetlag, so im out on the balcony overlooking the marina, which is so beautiful, peaceful and still...
Were staying in marina del ray at a fancy scmanzy hotel that B organised, hilariously its a room for the disabled or those with accessibility needs! Its great for me, its got a gino walk in shower, rails in the bathroom and everything at a lower high, which means boy doesnt have to take dominance over everything, although he has already taken the air con crown...that thing is loud and cold at night isnt it!! Anyway our hotel, so we arrived and the concerige had a good old ince over of us, and boy and i feeling good... Christ he's checking us out after a twelve hour flight right baby? Errr no, we have a disabled room and he is scanning for a visable loss of limb or something! Man id love to know what he settled on, cuz he looked quite satified when wed left the front desk!!
So let me just rewind a little now, waking up yesterday morning at the boys house... we dashed to heathrow on the piccadilly line, which is a hell of a lot easier said than done...my suitcase was so full i cant carry it, Bs is small and 'manly' aka doesnt have wheels so he has to carry it over his shoulder (like a handbag, yeah go figure ladies) oh and i have a hand luggage bag with teeny tiny straps (its a cute carpet one though) oh and a bumbag that did get annoying once or twice, wait theres more luggage... B has a back pack that pretty much weighs the same as me and oh yeah a 6'6'' inflatable surfboard bag! That was fun carrying around and getting onto the tube!!
So the airport was fine, first things first, dump the bags and then im happy!! Ok so it is a family tradition next that you have to eat a full fry up and clean the plate! As my dad very wisely says, liv-dog you dont know when your next meal will be and youll be greatfuk for it in the middle of the desert... Lets skip over the fact im flying air newzeland (most award winning airline for catering and the fact that im off to america where pretty much any food is available anytime!) so i scoffed up a while breakfast, avoiding the bread amd no coffee for me (my new weird no lactose or gluten fad - you should try it!! After breakfast i literally couldnt move, my stomach hurt, oh man i was genuinely waddling around!!
After lots of kicks and shoves and knees in the back and four movies we arrive in california, ready to start our roadtrip... In the customs line were giggling at the ugly kids, the chinese one that is throwing up on the nanny and the super surley and stern looking mumma behind one of the customs desks, corrr she had specs on which inch thick lenses! B poked me and joked wed have her! We did! And twenty minutes later, two sets of finger prints, his driving license and a second opinion we manage to get into the us of a. Ok so Bs passport picture isnt great, but bliney whos is...plus it was taken eight years ago or something, i for one certainly dont look the same as i did at 14. This mumma thought he must have had plastic or reconstructive surgery on his nose, his ears werent the same as the picture (they were covered by teenage boy long hair!!) and this seemed to really bother her!! In that famously drawling accent, She said Mr please raise your head, to the side, front, up, down, making us both nervous... Is it acceptable to crack jokes at this point? Make light of the situation and make her see common sense... I suspected it would have gone down like a led balloon so no!
So we hop in a cab to our hotel, a beautiful one in marina del ray, not to far from the airport and recommedned to us by some friends from work... And if i skip through the disabled room bit and scate over a pretty unmemorable dinner, being bullied into drinking alchohol (cant you see my skin is dehydrated from that flight mr? It needs water, mousturiser, sleep and a little tlc) it brings us to now, about 545 in the morning. Its so beautiful and...to say quite would be a lie as the aircon machine thingy is blasting but you know, cant win at everything on holiday! I am just beginning to feel tierd again and my eyes starting to drop but i know if i stay for another half an hour i will get to see the sun rise over the marina and in my zen like state that would be nice :)
Happy travels, xoxo
