Right, I'll start by apologising for not doing this for a while. I actually completely forgot I had it so I'm about 3 steps behind now!
After leaving Cairns and having a night in Townsville (crap, full of jumpy jacks and squaddies) we took a 20 minute ferry over to Magnetic Island. The original plan was to stay for a few days and see if it was any good, and if it was, extend the stay.
After arriving we took one of only 2 taxis on the island (!) accross to our hostel at Picnic Bay. It was a basic affair on probably the quietest part of the island, but it was good enough. We had a bar, a cashpoint, a chinkies, a beach and a shop all within walking distance, so you can't complain can you!
We spent the week either doing nowt on the beach, or by the hostel pool. We did do a few things, like actually get some exersise (I hate trying to spell that word!) by hiring a bike. Well, me and Norm did, the others got a 'Moke' which is just a small car, well just about a car anyway. We managed to cycle to the other side of the island and back (18km!) without dieing once!
At the end of the week, it was Lisa's birthday so we shifted to a more happening part of the island, but as it turns out, nothing was.. happening. There was a Croc loose in the area for the first time in 22 years, and it had prettymuch brought everything to a halt beach-wise. That put a crimp in the snorkelling plans, that did.. Still, we did what we do best and got hammered that night, so all was not lost!
We left the next morning for the ferry back to Townsville, before heading to Airlie Beach the next day.
Laters dudes..

Do hope the rain cleared up for the walkers. Will try and send some of my photos if I can work out how to do it easily.Kindest regardsShona
