I felt it was time for another little slice of my adventures, I hope you enjoy it and are not bored of them yet!
My last blog ended with me on route to Luang Probang and I'm pleased to say we made it. Our stay involved some beautiful waterfalls, complete with rope swings, some seriously competitive bowling and a bar where volleyball was the post drinking activity of choice and scooters where the preferred wall decorations...random to say the least, so I felt I fitted in quite well!
We then headed to Vang Vieng for what I had heard was the highlight of Laos....tubing! I'm pleased to say I haven't been disappointed. It involves several bars along a stretch of the river, surrounded by mountains, where body painting is the norm, beer pong is essential and diving off platforms and rope swings is the way to cool yourself off.
The festival atmosphere is what you want and I have been engulfed in this surreal world and almost lost track of time, several people I have met said they only came for a few days and ended up staying for months on end and I can see why!
Night time activities involve crossing over to "the island" where drinking in hammocks, watching fire dancing and hula until the sun comes up is the way you spend your night, I have also started a bit of a trend of hammock wrestling where the first one out of their hammock loses!
Since this carnage is unsustainable for prolonged periods, the drinking aside, my whole lower half is blue from the river rocks and impact of the water from the rope swings. Me, Dale, Kira and Kelly (a bristolian we met on the slow boat, who sounds like she is from the film Hot Fuzz) decided to rent scooters and check out the country a little bit more. Some serious dirt tracks, cows blocking the road and scooters from 1920 later and we found some more waterfalls. Our trip took us through some of the rural countryside which was awesome because we encounter the less touristy side of Laos
An unexpected encounter with Mr Andrew Milner, a friend from home, yesterday evening has meant I have put off getting my bus to Vietnam until tomorrow, another day of tubing awaits!
Hope this blog finds you well!
