Hola mi familia y mis amigos,
Buenos aires was fab. Very noisy, very busy and I nearly got run over about 10 times. That would not have been good in the first week!!!! The roads are bonkers. Pedestrian crossings don´t mean anything really, you just leg it and hope for the best.
We arrived on Tuesday, and I have now realised I should have tried to learn a bit more spanish. Have got many blank looks and felt pretty stupid most of the time, but it is already improving! We do know how to ask for a beer! We went into a little cafe on the first day. (there are hundreds of these, with apparently gorgeous coffee. If I was going to be converted into liking it it would be here. I even went to the extent of tasting a bit of Daves. His had chocolate in it and I still didn´t like it!!!!) The owner of the cafe was really nice and we spent 3 hours in there practicing our spanish on him and him practicing his english on us. In fact most people here are very friendly and helpful, if we look a bit lost they´ll tell us where to go or when to get off the subway.
If you are into architecture you would love this place. Very European. Loads of old buildings, and really cool different areas of the city. You could spend hours just walking around. There seems to be a lot of polution though and a lot of the buildings look like they are about to fall down.
On a couple of the evenings we went out with an australian brother and sister we had met in the hostel bar. There are loads of cool bars all in the different areas of the city.
We have also been to see the home of Boca Juniors. The Bombonera stadium. It looked huge, holds around 60,000 I think. There is still loads of standing room and massive fences to stop the lunatic fans getting on the pitch. I am gutted there is not a match on because it would have been amazing to go, but hopefully we will get to go in Brazil. It is weird to think that they are one of the most successful teams in Argentina yet obviously don´t have much money. Their stadium was very run down.
Also saw some random tango dancing in a cafe. Apparently that happens a lot here.
Yesterday we visited a couple of museums, and I went shopping for a hat and a scarf because I think its going to be freezin further south. Its cold enough in Buenos Aires!
We then prepared ourselves for the 18 hour bus journey to Puerto Madryn.
