That brings us to last weekend. Monday was a public holiday in India, so Lucy and I decided to take Friday off too and have a long weekend in Sri Lanka. It was fantastic!!
Sri Lanka is a lovely country! It is green, clean, doesn't have many speed bumps, you don't get much hassle, and you don't see many men urinated in the street. AMAZING!! What a contrast to India, which is literally only a few miles away.
On the Friday and Saturday Lucy and I went on a tour which incorporated an Elephant Sanctuary (at which we cleaned an elephant, had an elephant shower, then went on an elephant ride), the temple of the Relic Tooth in Kandy, a tea factory and a white water rafting ride. All were great.
On the Saturday night we headed back to Colombo where we were staying with Nuha and her family. Nuha works for KPMG in the UK, and is Sri Lankan. She was back in Sri Lanka to have her baby (her and her husband are expecting a baby in about a week's time!!). As we arrived back into Colombo the India v Sri Lanka final of the World Cup was under well. I felt a little disloyal not to support India, but secretly I was! I was pleased when they won - it certainly made everyone in the office very happy!
On the Sunday Lucy and I went to a nice hotel on a beach to the south of Colombo, and chilled out by the pool. It was lovely. Also the food at the hotel was amazing. It was so nice to get fresh veg and fruit (somehow it is difficult to get fresh food in India, unless it's in curry).
Then on Monday Lucy, Nuha and I spent the whole day shopping. A lot of clothes sold in western shops are made in Sri Lanka, so I was able to pick up some M&S, D&G, Dorothy Perkins and other clothes at a fraction of the UK price. Brilliant!! I just hope we didn't wear out Nuha too much!! That night we had a Sri Lankan feast back at Nuha's house, which was delicious!! Yum yum!! It was great to get home cooked food.
On Tuesday we had a very early morning to catch a flight back to work, and then go straight to work.
Work is still very busy, and Lucy and I are still working long hours. So I'm pleased it's the weekend now.
Oh - I forgot that Wednesday was an "ethnic" day at OPI, so we dressed in our saris. This time Jaya helped us get dressed so they were fixed in a very different was that was much easy to walk in. Next week we are having another sari day, so I am going out today to buy a new sari. This time we have orders to buy a very specific sari, in a Keralan style to celebrate Keralan New Year!!
Well I'd better get going to get the sari!
Bye for now.
