Hundreds of fires swept through parts of the Blue Mountains in October. This a photo of one area. We had expected complete devestation. The underbrush and trunks are black, but vegetation higher in the trees has survived -- some is quite brown while in other instances the top half is still green. Perhaps more severe damage has been done and the trees will not survive.
