Day 43
Today was our last day in Byron Bay before heading to Surfers Paradise. We headed down to Main Beach and found out that they were holding an International Triathlon over the Olympic distance.
We saw the start of the Pro mens and womens swim and then headed upto the transition area to see them start out on their bikes. The Pro women started 1 minute behind the Pro men and we were surprised to see that some of the Pro women had overtaken the Pro men.
We stayed to watch the climax of the event and got speaking to a Triathlon geek who was pointing all the different athletes to us. One of the eldest competitors was a previous World Champion who was now competing at the age of 75.
We saw the Pro men and women finish the race and be interviewed. Then we headed back to shower and change as we planned to eat out again at Cheeky Monkeys. We arrived half and hour early and were fifth in the queue, only to find that when the doors opened some of the employees friends jumped the queue. These extra people ment that our food would not have come out in time before our bus arrived, so we went for a kebab.
