Liz & Chez's Big Adventure
okay, so where were we... thats right we were in Cairns recovering from our night out by taking a trip to the rainforest! Not your typical hangover cure but one we definitely recommend especially when you get to see it overhead from a cable car before getting out to examine it close up on foot. You could really see where the cyclone had hit though, lots of naked, broken trees. Sadly that day did not continue to go as planned, Liz got her times mixed up and we missed our bus, surprised? No? Us neither. Don't worry though we batted our eyelashes at the bus driver and caught the overnight bus instead with the added bonus of not having to pay for accomodation - yey! The bus took us to Townsville where we arrived at 5.30am and caught the ferry across to Magnetic Island. The locals found it hysteically funny yo see backpackers up so early but we didn't mind because perched on a bench we watched the most stunning sunrise. Liz got poorly in Magnetc Island (which she has now infected Cheryl with) but felt well enough the second day to hire some bikes and go exploring. Without the help of the grumpy tourist information lady we found a gorgeous lookout point where we decided we definitely needed 1 to push our bikes up the huge steep hill and 2 to take a photo of ourselves backed by the beautiful view. Yeah, 50 photos later we nearly fell off the cliff we were laughing so much and we still didn't get it right- I guess you had to be there...he he he, yep still funny!
Back in Townsville we had plenty of time to kill before our next bus (we weren't going to miss another one) so we took ourselves to a coffee shop and ordered the biggest cups of tea and hot chocolate imaginable plus the lady threw in some free muffins so we were set for our next journey to Airlie beach where we were going to take a lovely luxury yaught around the stunning bue waters of the barrier reef - the Whitsundays. Hmmm...after 2 hours of hanging our heads off the back of the boat throwing up our complimentary lunch our excitement was numbed a little. The weather was appalling!!!! Not to fear, our resort South Molle, a little tropical island was lovely and after a few getting to know you drinking games we had cheered up no end and headed off to the bar with Cheryl's giant England flag to watch the football. The next day we realised exactly why we were there (even though it still hadn't stopped raining), we got in the sea and firstly discovered it was warm and secondly discovered it was full of the most breath taking fish and coral ever! That was after Cheryl had finished panicking about breathing through a snorkel, a few words of wisdom from Liz and we were both away. We were dropped at a beach to "sunbathe" but looking around there was just a bunch of people looking a bit disgruntled in bikinis and fleeces (the thought was there and we did go in the water - to get warm!). Cheryl had a slightly better time than most having met the charming young Chris from Windsor. Yes, Liz did approve and sat back to watch the romance blossom - ahh!
