So we arrived in Bangkok from Hanoi by plane and jumped straight in a taxi to the train station to catch the sleeper train to Chiang Mai. We got to the counter and there was no beds left on the train, just seats so we have to go in 3rd class and sit there for 15 hours on a hard seat, we thought this is going to be dreadful. We sat down and straight away the women opposite was with a dog so abit annoying but she was really nice and so was the dog. A couple of hours into it our bums were numb and just thinking we still have another 13-14 hours. I got up and went for a walk down the train and found a half comfy decliner so I plonked myself there for the rest of the journey. About 6 hours later Matt came and joined me and we both just chilled there until the end, the last few hours were dragging but it was a good experience to look back on.
Got to Chiang Mai 17 hours later and jumped in a taxi to our Hotel. The women behind the desk was really nice and spoke good english. She was telling us all the information about the trips we wanted to go on. So we put our bags in our room and went straight back down to book the trips. It was very cheap, so we even booked a flight back to Bangkok instead of the train for £45. We went for a walk after we booked everything up and had dinner and a few drinks while watching Man Utd vs Arsenal. Arsenal lost 1-0 which was annoying! We then headed back to the Hotel for some sleep and the Tiger Kingdom the next day.
Tiger Kingdom
Matt woke up with the poo's which I found hilarious as he never has a poo ever and going like 6 times before we even went out made my day. We got in a Tuc Tuc to the Tiger Kingdom which was about 40 minute drive away so we kicked back and relaxed for the duration of the ride. Paid to get in and first we went and saw the baby tigers which were really cute, had a few pics with them. One of them was asleep and didn't even wake up, definatly drugged so people can have a good snap with them. Then we went over to the biggest tigers which were definatly drugged as they were either asleep or just dragged them self about. We got a few good snaps of both big and small and even some random tigers that were fighting with eachother. We then jumped back on the Tuc Tuc and headed back to the Hotel. We got back about 4pm so we chilled for the rest of the night, I went for a jog while Matt chilled in until about 8pm when we both went out for dinner and to watch Qpr Vs Reading which ended up 1-1.
Elephant Trek - 2 day, 1 night
Day 1
The next morning we had to be up about 8.30am as the bus was picking us up for our 2 day 1 night Eco Trek (elephant trek). There was 6 other girls in our group which was a good start, 2 was from Germany and the other 4 was from somewhere else in Europe. There was also a german boy aswell called Lucas. We went straight to a snake show where we had a look at some snakes before they put on a show for us which was really good. Our tour guide called 'Good' was winding the girls up with a little twig pretending to be a snake which was hilarious. After the snake show we headed to a market where you had to buy a flashlight and whatever else you needed. We then headed to where we was starting the trek, had lunch before the hyke started. It was a 3 hour walk up the mountain that I enjoyed as it was a good workout and made you sweat alot, Matt didn't over enjoy it as he aint a big fan of walking. We felt like we was getting bitten alive by bugs. After a few hours we arrived at the village to a bug hut where we were staying. One room with 9 beds init, and the other room was the kitchen. The was no electricity so we had to get our torches out, they put candles everywhere to lighten it up a little bit. Good was cooking curry for dinner which was quite nice. After dinner we all sat round having a few drinks singing with Good as he was playing the guitar, which he wasn't too bad at and he could sing, a little! About 10 o'clock everyone went to bed as it was a long day.
Day 2
The next morning everyone got woke up about 4am by the roosters but didn't have to be up until 7am. We then had breakfast which was scrambled egg with toast and jam. We then got set and headed out about 8am for a 90 minute walk to the waterfall. When we got there the sun was just coming out but we were hot and sweaty from the walk even though it was down hill. The water was freezing but I managed to twist Matt's arm to get in there for like a minute before we both got back out and got changed ready for our walk to the elephant camp. When we arrived there me and Matt got split up and put on different elepants. We was both with 2 of the girls each and I got put on the head first which was a weird and scary feeling but when you get used to it its fine. Matt swapped with one of the girls half way round to get a go on the head. About 45 minutes later we done a lap with the elephants, it was time for lunch which was chicken pad thai, which was ok but I dont like it with vegetables and the bean sprouts so didn't eat it and niether did Matt as he was still pooping alot. We then all got changed and jumped in a boat to go white water rafting for about 15 minutes, straight after that we jumped on a bamboo submarine (floating bamboo) and floated down the river while and man was directing us with a stick in the water. He got me up at the front to have a go at sterring and wasn't aseasy as it looked but after getting used to it, it was good and enjoyable. At the end of that we all got changed from our wet clothes to get back in the truck and head back to our hotels to get ready and meet everyone from our trip for a few drinks in a local bar. 6.30pm came round and we all met at a bar with the 4 European girls and the tour guide Good. We had a right laugh which was a good ending to the trip. About 11.30pm me and Matty headed back to the Hotel as we were a bit typsy and tired.
The next day we got up, had breaky and hired out peds for the day which were really quick and nippy. We had a little drive round for a couple of hours before we found out that there was a cinema and a big shopping centre near by, so about 6pm we got changed and headed to the shopping centre which was quite nice, had some good shops in and quite cheap. We had Pizza Hut for dinner before nipping in the cinema to see what was on. There wasn't alot on so we decided to go into the little arcade where they had PS3's where you could play Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 so me and Matty had a game. He beat me twice but it was lucky. After that we headed back to the Hotel as it was quite late, walked round the corner after parking the peds up and had a Starbucks before bed.
After we got up, we packed up and checked out about 12pm. Matt had woke up with loads of bloches over he's face like he had been bitten alive all night, we think it may have been the actual bed itself running alive with bugs, so we got some tiger balm and some medication and hoping it dies down. Just a bit worried incase he goes to cross the road and the traffic stops thinking he's a red light. Then jumped back on the peds and shot off down to the shopping centre as we both needed some t-shirts, they were cheap and good quality. We had to give the peds back at 2pm which was nice timing as we then could go for lunch, then jump in a Tuc Tuc to the Airport for our flight to Bangkok at 5.10pm. Next stop Bangkok for a messy night out before we meet the Gemma and Jo on the Saturday morning to travel by coach somewhere else....
