We arrived in Tupiza at 4am, luckily Susan had negotiated a half-price room rate at a hostel around the corner from the train station, so we hit the hay! The next morning we went for a look around the town. Lisa found the book "Marching Powder" about San Pedro prison in La Paz, so we snapped that up and Lisa instantly got addicted to it!
Ben then made Lisa watch a boring Boro match in which Blackburn equalised in the last minute to get a 1-1 draw (Ben was moody again)!
Next day we went on a 5-hour horse ride through the Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid area. They are buried just outside town (we didn't get to see this). We had heard a lot about the "crazy horses" before the ride but thought, surely they are all the same. Our guide was a 14 year-old boy which says a lot about the tour company we went with. So we set-off through the desert-like canyons which really felt like we were in the Wild Wild West! Everything was going smoothly an hour in, then Lisa's horse (Escala) decided to go the wrong way. There was only the two of us, plus our guide, the guide went after Lisa to calm the horse down. Then Ben's horse (Julia) decided she wanted to gallop-off into the sunset. Ben literally pooped his pants and was squealing "stop/pare", "help me" and "no" countless times as the horse gathered momentum and wouldn't stop even with the then chasing guide trying to calm Julia down. Meanwhile Lisa watched on from a distance in absolute hysterics. Sh was still laughing about it hours later and couldn't resist telling Timo, Susan, Adam & Katie all about "stupid Ben" at dinner later that evening (whilst still laughing just as much as she was at the time). Next day we left for Argentina......
