wednescay day six decided to have a breakfast of fruit and went to the hotel and glacier perk and had a cinnamon scone and coffee. We had booked a two hour boat ride at 11 from many glacier. This was a 21 miles over rough roads and lots of potholes. We had lots of stops as the views were superb. Martin drove and also drove on the run to the sun road. under supervision of course. The towering mountains ahead and lake below. The hotel many glacier lodge is purported to be the one which could be from the shining. It’s cut completely off for the winter with a caretaker there. It is styled in the chunky woods style. We boarded the boat which was full. Lots of serious hikers abroad and us!, we went on a short hop over lake still water and then a short hike through the Forrest to lake Josephine. We were warned about bears but did not see any. The boat ride in the second lake gave us stunning views of Many Glacier and the surrounding mountains. We decided not to get off as it would be two hours before the next boat ride but quite a few did this. Back to the lodge and the car. We had been advised that Two Sisters was a good place to have Hiuckleberry Pie. Found the stop which is a simple cabin but large. Got seated and decided to have some lunch as well. I had sticky sesame chicken wings with celery and a dipping sauce. Martin had fries and a bison burger. These were delicious with a hint of hotness on the chicken wings. The diner was crowded and had very strange objects hanging from the roof. When the Huckleberry Pie came it was ok but not to die from. Think we are all huckleberried out now!!!
Proceeded to drive back to st Marys and onto the going to the sun road. the road is narrow by USA standards but by Uk not so much. Martin drove. The only difference was the steep drop. The mountains loomed large and were massive. We could only go as far as Logan’s Pass as the wild fires had caused the road to be closed. Logan’s Pass was crowded with lots of cars and tourists. Logan’s pass is a site where the Continental Divide is. this is where the Atlantic is on one side and The Pacific on the other. If on a flat area water would flow in the direction downward to the Pacific or other. After photos the weather started to dramatically change. The skies darkened and I felt rain in the air. We got back in the car just as the rain started. driving back down it turned to hail and the temperature went down to 37degrees. What a change from The sun in the morning. We heard later that some snow came down. I felt the altitude at Logan’s Pass as it is 6,500 ft above sea level. I had felt tired since getting to St Marys and think I had some alitude sickness.
We decided to go back to Johnson’s for dinner. They close on the Friday and did not have much left on the menu. We had bbq brisket with soup followed by mash potato, coleslaw etc. Again it was filling and reasonably cheap ($18.50 ) and good. Back to the lodge where at 9pm I went to sleep.
