Civilisation had arrived...how did we know? There was a McDonalds! We parked up on the campsite closest to town...which happened to be about 30 bloody minutes walk away! A long walk was not what we wanted for a night out, but we just didn't care at first as we were all in desperate need of a shower! Haha.
Smelling fresh and feeling clean we took a little drive to liqorland to stock up on alcohol. Can you believe they don't sell goon here? What the hell is up with that? Im guessing it's because of the abo's around...they are everywhere! But what were WE supposed to do? We wandered around for a while trying to make decisions and eventually decided to splash out for once and we got two bottles of vodka!!! Oh how happy I was to have vodka again...we did also buy 6 bottles of $5 wine...called 'slippery fish.' You can imagine the taste! Nt the best thing I've ever tasted! And it was no 4 litres for $12 but it did the job!
Once we were stocked up it was straight to McDonalds. Yes it had to be done...all of you would have done the same, and don't even try to deny it! Haha. The food went down pretty quickly...we wolfed it down. It was good to have something other than pasta and rice!
When we were done we met up with Andy(liams roomate from perth) at the staircase to the moon! Basically as the moon rises it creates a shadow over the sea which looks like a staircase! It's pretty cool to see but it doesn't look too much like a staircase, the gaps are pretty big in some areas...you wouldn't be able to walk up that staircase. But it was good to see none the less!
Once the moon had finished it's job we went back to the camper for a few drinks. We played a few games and then pretty much passed out...die to tiredness not drunkeness haha. Nobody was really up for going out after the long drive we'd had! We saved ourselves and our alcohol for the big night out!
I was up bright and early to do some washing. I was in desperate need of some clean clothes and I finally got them! While the clothes were drying Liam and me took a walk into town to check it out: it's a really cool place actually. The scenery reminded me a bit of Miami but it was nowhere near as party like or busy as Miami. It was a very tranquil town. After a good few hours of wandering and scoping out where the good places to go at night are we returned to the camper and we all took a ride to Cable Beach.
For some reason I keep calling it mission beach but that's in cairns...we won't be driving there. Miles away. Silly me!
We just chilled out for the rest of the day pretty much. That's all we seem to be doing lately. You can never have too much relaxation haha. There were actually some waves back in the sea which was cool. Nowhere near to the extent of Sydney though...I managed to keep my bikini on this time...thank god!
Before heading back to the campsite we made a quick stop at Coles for some BBQ food, we thought we'd treat ourselves...again!
Kangaroo and burgers were on the menu. Yum! Liam started the cooking while we all got ready for a night on the town. It was good to be able to dress up again!
Janis had decided to shave his head before going out, but before starting to use the clippers he didn't check what number it was on and went straight to shave a small part at the front of his head. It was practically bald...it looked even funnier as he is quite tanned on the face but completely White at the top of his head. Justine tried to make it look a bit better, sort of blend it in with the rest of his hair but nothing was really working. It was hysterical. There was no way he could have shaved it all the same he would have looked ridiculous, a pale scalp and a tanned face...not a good look haha. He chose to wear a hat out that night so he was all good!
After some lovely grub the drinking games began. Andy had joined us again and the usual games were played...first a round of f*** the dealer and then came ring of fire straight afterwards...it's like a routine now. Frenemies sometimes makes the cut but it's usually just the main two games. We didn't manage to finish the game though as we had to be out for 9.30pm Everything starts early here. We all pretty much said 'b***** the walk into town...let's just get a taxi!' and so we did. We had a pick up right outside the camper and we were taken to 'Oasis' bar/club. An outdoor club so we could all party under the stars.
Girls got in for free...score! Being a girl kicks ass sometimes! It was pretty dead at the beginning but we got the drinks in and sat down while the place filled up. We tried getting Curly to enter the we tshirt competition...$500 prize. She would have won hands down but she chose against it. As the night went on motorboating her became a big thing with everyone for some reason! I think all of us had a go and then me and Justine were just grabbing the miners to come have a go. There were people queuing haha. She was so confused he didn't know what the hell was going on bless her. It was funny though.
A few hours into the night the dancefloor was booming and we all danced the night away, throwing some crazy moves, as always. It felt so good to be on a night out. For me a little too good...I got pretty drunk. Oops! The night flew by. Not only does everything start early...but everything finishes early as well. The party was in full swing and everything just switched off at closing time and we just had to leave! We were having so much fun, I didn't want it to end.
We called a taxi to take us home. Taking us on a small detour through Mcds drive thru of course. I can't really remember much else only that our driver looked exactly like Alan from the hangover! He was a legend. The next thing I remember was just waking up the next day with a banging head and the driest mouth EVER! Mr hangover had arrived.
So yes you guessed it, it was another beach day for us...back to cable beach to soak up the sun. Most of the day was spent in the water though...it was crazy hot...I mean crazy!! Janis managed to find a tennis ball so Justine, Liam me and Janis were just having a throw around. It was like on friends when they throw the ball for hours without dropping it except we spent hours just doing the exact opposite haha. It was just throwing and dropping, throwing and dropping! We needed a lot of practice!
A little later Joe was walking towards us to come and join in. The only problem was we didn't really want to be associated with him as he looked just like a tramp. So much so he could pull of being an abo. Haha sorry Joe! He was in a grey vest top with splats of UV paint over it...and instead of wearing swim shorts like normal people would to the beach he just wore his tight boxers! When he was all wet he looked even more ridiculous he tried to keep his 'dignity' by pulling the vest over his boxers and stood up reading while he dried off. Tip for you Joe next time just put your swim shorts on!
Later on back in the sea Justine began acting like she was from a mental institute...just singing very loudly in the sea. It was like me and curly had brought her on a day trip to the beach. It was very much like one of lizzyloo's singing outbursts. Haha. Luckily for Justine I didn't have a camera to film hers. We had the whole songlist from grease and then her own rendition of dirty dancing with and attempt at the big lift! Which as you can probably guess, failed haha. We were at the beach for pretty much the whole day until the sun began to go down. It was a great relaxation day.
We had another quick stop at coles for another small shop. Since it's the first time we've seen a Coles in hundreds of miles I think we just took advantage of it. We had another abo encounter on the way back to the camper. He tried selling Liam a lighter for $30. Is he crazy? Haha.
Back at the site we made our meal for the evening, well Joe did, we were supposed to be having sausage and mash but instead it was sausages and flavoured paste! The thing is it was smash so Joe felt the need to add so much flavour to try and make it taste good. He'd put so much in there were too many flavours. There was a whole pot of soured cream, half a block of cheese, a whole tube of garlic paste, milk, butter, so much salt it felt like I had sea water in my mouth and I think that's it. It was an overload of flavours, plus the amount it cost us to buy all those ingredients it would have actually been cheaper to make proper mash. Dinner ended and Joe and Janis kindly dropped the rest of us off at open air cinema which has been running for 90 years. We went to watch the new Tim Burton film: Dark Shadows. The cinema was awesome. We took a blanket with us...I took Carlos's advice Liz but we were outdoors. Plus it seemed to be the thing to do, everyone had blankets and pillows. We bought our tickets and took our seats in the deck chair seating. The movie theatre was so old school, with all the old cinema equipment and it even played the movie on the old movie reels. It was so cool watching a movie under the stars. We did get startled by a plane flying extremely low over us during the movie but other than that the sky was beautifully lit with so many stars! I'd definately recommend doing it if you ever visit Broome! The film is also recommended. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening. Joe and Janus returned to pick us up and we were straight to bed!
After the usual morning routine most of us went to try and rent scooters for the day but unfortunately for us they were sold out. It seems like it is one of the main things to do there. We should have booked really!
Well there was a small market going on close by so we had a little wander around there to pass time before the Wales: Australia rugby match!
We decided to do our big shop in Coles ready for our long journey through the outback. There's going to be no civilisation for a looooong time.
Whilst wandering around the store two random old women walked up to Liam asking him where the tissues were, he played along first and told them aisle 6...he actually had no clue. Then they continued asking 'where's the ginger?' he just started laughing and just saying 'Oh I'm not sure about that one!'. They said to him; 'what am i going to do if you can't find it? I need it for my brandy.' They then turned to us and said; 'ah he's hopeless, he should get the sack!' haha. We were all just in hysterics. They decided to ask him one more question. 'Well where's Dave? You must know where Dave is?' haha. The old man just walked around the corner so Liam just pointed and said; 'there he is...there's Dave, they've been looking all over for you!' haha. Dave didn't have a clue what was going on. The three of them just plodded off. It was random as hell but sooooo funny!
Later that evening curly, Liam and me took a wander to find a bar playing the Welsh game. We found an Irish bar with $5 pints. Bargain. Sitting there watching the game in an Irish bar just made me feel like I was home. The only thing missing was atmosphere. We were pretty much the only people in there. It was fun none the less. Wish Wales won though...not sure what was going on with them in the first half. Hopefully they'll have better luck next game! After the game we made our way back to join the others. I made tacos before everyone went to bed!
We must have been sleepy as we didn't wake up until 45 minutes before we had to check out. Oops! We eventually got on the road and set off on our long journey to Darwin. 1700km long to be exact!
A good few hours into our drive we stopped at Fitzroy crossing to see Geika Gorge. There were two walks to take...either a 2.2km walk or a 800m walk. As you can probably guess we chose against the 2.2km walk...no thank you!! We took the short walk and managed to find the gorge which was beautiful. Curly and Liam tried commandeering a boat but Curly couldn't find the keys. Shock that! I don't think anyone would just leave keys in the ignition haha! We continued on the route...or so we thought but after 10 minutes we were back at the start! Something went wrong somewhere haha. Ah well we saw the gorge and that's why we went there. We saw it and didn't have to walk far at all...that's a plus to me! Maybe they should make our route a proper one.
We continued driving North for a little while until it got too dark to drive any further. We were on high alert for kangaroos...we just didn't want to hit one. We managed to find a rest area so pulled in for the night.
It wasn't my favourite day of the trip, the long drive made me feel a bit homesick, missing everyone from home and craving a good night out with the girls. I cheered up quite a bit though, firstly we made a map of Australia with sand which was fun! Secondly and mainly when Justine attempted a bit of plumbing! We've manage to block the sink in the camper you see, I'm not sure how but we have. Not only is it blocked, it leaks. She took it all apart and Curly cleaned it, then we reassembled it and it was still broken. Not sure plumbing is the best career path for Justine! Haha. We do still have a problem though. We are now sinkless!
This was not fun this morning having to wash the dishes outside in a tiny bowl, and brushing our teeth while people stared at us from the camper opposite!
Well we are on the move again now. It's day two of our long drive. I dread to think of the state we'll be in after this 3 day drive with no shower! Uh-oh! Haha.
I'll keep you posted!
Too be continued...
