Today started with a ferry, the Prins Richard, the spearhead of the Scandlines fleet.
We reached the port, our printed ticket was scanned and we were ushered on to the boat in record time. We were parked with the lorries and caravans on the bottom deck so decided better scenery would be found higher up.
The top deck was great, duty free shopping followed by sea viewing in a prime spot. We reached the windows just in time to see the Prins Richard sailing past in the opposite direction. Initial panic gave way to joy as we realised they'd accidentally let us on an earlier crossing!!
Denmark was great, we love Denmark, everything is in English, everyone is friendly and everything has an automated option. Denmark also has many seasons in one, the colours are from Autumn but it has the bare feeling of Winter with some fierce Summer sun. It's exactly how you'd imagine Denmark to be, fields, forests and lots of water.
Denmark also has many pigs which I thought was cute until I remembered a the 'Danish bacon' adverts on TV. The other great thing about Denmark is the bridge over to Sweden. You start off by entering a long deep tunnel under the sea, then you emerge gloriously at a little island and up over a really really long winding bridge, if it wasn't a toll we'd have gone round a few times.
Sweden is great too, the sun was boiling by this point and we were tired so had lots of little stops soaking in sunshine and fresh air in picnic spots. The only down side for today's driving trip was that we only changed road twice in 315 miles and the majority was on Swedens E4 which is mile after mile of forest....it looks exactly like the roads through the Scottish highlands (but sunnier).
We arrived at camp early evening. Like the others this one is fairly deserted too. The view of Lake Vattern is breathtaking and the kids happily played for ages on the park next to our pitch. The best bit is that we don't have to check out until 4pm and, though we won't be leaving that late, it does mean lie in !!!
Trip status 1200 miles down, 200 to go. Kids happy, adults happy. We may adopt a travellers lifestyle and just keep going.
