8.15am what a lie in! We went to bed early and still slept to 8.15, it's fab! We headed down to breakfast which was the biggest selection we've seen yet. There were so many different types of sausage, meats, eggs etc plus potatoes, beans and even quiche. Then there was the salad bar and fruit bar plus the pastries and breads. So much of it was homebaked and was all completely gorgeous. The challenge as usual is making a cup of tea but Steve seems to have taken that particular mission each morning so I'm not complaining.
After breakfast me and the kids headed to the Spa. Kids are allowed in until 12 and there was only one other family so we could do as we pleased. We went to different types of pool to aid circulation or improve skin. We went in both the indoor and outdoor jaquzzis and swam in the indoor and outdoor pools (the kids were particularily impressed by the automatic door between the indoor and outdoor pools that you could just swim up to then through). There were whirlpools, showers and jets everywhere so we stayed till our fingers were more than a little wrinkly. Leaning on the side of a warm pool meters from Oslofjord will always be a highlight for me :)
Once dry we found Steve and all went for a walk up the hill. We found a little shop and had a look round. Norway is the most expensive place we've ever been to. The beer in the hotel is £8 for 0.4l and a basket of fries was coming in at around £4.50. The shop was no better, £4 for a loaf of bread £2.50 for the smallest tub of marg. We window shopped and came straight out deciding to have a picnic in our room from our UK supplies instead.
After lunch we went tenpin bowling in the hotel bowling alley. We were the only ones playing which was a relief though we were embarrased when the kids drew for 1st place (though they did have bumpers!) and we ended way behind. I did get 2 strikes though which I'm proud of but highlights how inconsistant my bowling was!!
To end the gloating by taking the kids minds of the result we headed to the beach and were the only ones there - Monday must be a quiet day here!. The kids were having so much fun so we found a table on the terrace and ordered some drinks. We stayed there much of the afternoon, at one point the rain started lightly but we had a canopy above us so the sound just made it really good (I love hearing raindrops land above you.)
The afternoon entertainment came when the kids got locked in the beachside toilet. After fearful cries we calmed them down and Steve passed his phone in through the window so they could take a picture of the lock then we could talk them through opening it. Once safe they recovered from their trauma within seconds and headed back to the beach to search for treasure and bury each other in sand.
Tea was another picnic in the room (saving pennies!) and to enjoy the last of Norway we headed along the jetty for a walk before one last play on the beach. We're back in the room now and the kids are about to go to sleep ready for an earlier start tomorrow. They're excited to see Uncle John and Auntie Rox - I am too but I'll also be very sad to leave here...maybe we'll return one day.
