Early start today for a long drive through Sweden and Denmark to the bottom of Scandinavia.
The Swedish part was brightened by gorgeous sunshine and the odd sudden snow blizzard leading to us wearing gloves and sunglasses at the same time...this only looks odd when you find yourself fumbling for money in a petrol station queue!
To break up the journey we stopped at a tourist moose shop, today Ed had one of his 'up' days (ie he was bonkers) and he quickly found a horned viking hat he liked and put it on, he then ran madly through the shop including glass and pottery sections....never has the phrase 'bull in a china shop' seemed more appropriate!! Eventually after much running and shouting, at least 5mins of which spent circling a 6ft plastic moose, me and kayla cornered him and removed him from the shop in a firemans lift.
We travelled a fair bit South today and things progressively change, the signs have changed from 'beware of the moose' to 'beware of the deer'. Brutally road kill has gone from wolverine to badger to hare.
Also the traffic has increased from hardly seeing another vehicle in Sweden to busier roads in Denmark...we even saw a GB plate and it was a blue i10 with roof bars too. The progressive increase in traffic will serve us well for Hamburg, Essen and Dortmund tomorrow.
The Sweden-Denmark bridge was amazing again, going the other way it was weird to come out of the tunnel and straight up to the bridge but this way is just freaky...without knowledge of the tunnel the road looks for miles like it is incomplete, just disappears into the sea!!
We arrived in Nysted about 6pm and the place is beautiful, our route took us straight through the centre of town and we were the only ones there. Everything was shut, no one was out walking - for a while it was eerie. The campsite is great with loads for the kids to do and it's right at the beach too.
Steves mob-wars friend Mark came round with Easter Eggs for the kids and led us for a walk to the harbour. He's from Texas but has been in Denmark for years and grew up on American army bases in Europe so it was great to hear things from his perspective. After our walk we all had a very stereotypically English cuppa tea in the campervan and Ed treated him to peppa pig and lots of craziness.
Now it's time for bed. A ferry first thing followed by a drive across Germany to the Netherlands is the plan for tomorrow. Night night.
