Our Adventure Summarised:
Our final stop in Peru was an overnight stop in the capital city, Lima. We woke up early on Sunday morning to jump on our extortionately priced 09h15 flight from Cusco to Lima.
V, Al, Lara and I all managed to check into the flight successfully but we hit a slight travel speed bump when Georgie did not have a reserved seat (although she had booked this ticket 6 months in advance and paid in excess of GBP300 for the ticket) and therefore she had to be put on standby. So after much Spanglish and hand signals and seriously rashing the check in staff at the gate, Georgie finally managed to get on the last seat available from Cusco to Lima. Shoowee. Mission accomplished.
We jumped on the flight to Lima and arrived at the world class airport and we were all looking forward to our one day adventure in Lima. Driving back from the airport the one thing that we realised about Lima was that the best part about Lima was the airport. Well that was until we went exploring a bit later that evening…
We stayed in a hostel called Home Peru in an area called Miraflores. Miraflores is known for its shopping areas, gardens, flower-filled parks and beaches, it is one of the upscale districts that make up the city of Lima.
The district is full of cafés, pubs, restaurants and shops, which is a draw for a large part of the Lima population on Sundays and fortunately we were in Lima on a Sunday night.
Al was not feeling too well so V, Georgie, Lara and I headed out to Larcomar, which is a shopping mall overlooking the Pacific coast. Larcomar is very popular among tourists, young people, and the middle and upper classes and it is full of restaurants, stores, a food court, ice cream shops, arcades, bowling alleys, nightclubs, bars, and the most modern cinema in all of Lima.
We headed out to a restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean called Vista Al Mar and promptly tucked in to an unbelievable seafood dinner followed by some yummy Irish Coffees at the Havana Café.
That was all we had time for in Lima and that ended off the South American part of the World Tour. Next stop Mexico, Central America (or commonly known as Middle America by Georgie).
