It's now 4pm and we have returned from our jaunt around Valletta just in time as the wind is now howling and the rain lashing down but it's good to watch from the window as we have some tea and more carbo.
The weather hasn't been what we had planned . Simon need not have worried about forgetting to bring shorts and we didn't need the the sunscreen but it hasn't stopped our boat trip to Valletta, a walk around the ancient city and 4 geocaches. The city has amazing buildings and views . Unfortunately early closing on Saturday meant the Cathedral was shut, the war museum was temporary shut for renovation but the place was full of fascinating views and buildings with the odd English red telephone box looking a bit out of place. Likewise M&S and BHS stores don't seem to fit in. We stopped for some Maltese coffee and pies to shelter from a rain shower, neither of which were as appetising as they looked , still there is still plenty of pizza to get through. There are plenty of runners wandering the streets probably all complaining that their legs are aching after climbing the steep hills in Valletta, the pavements of which turn to slippery slopes in the rain, so I hope there were no slips or sprains before the big day tomorrow.
We got back to our apartment for relaxation just before the weather deteriorated the wind increased and the rain got heavy. Luckily the hotel 20 yards from our front door served good pasta and offered free glasses of wine. Elly could have got very drunk by having four glasses of wine while we drank water but she wouldn't have been a fit state to support Simon tomorrow.
Last minute prep for race day and a quick game of cards and check the weather for tomorrow "thunderstorms and heavy rain"-great!

Barbara The hills in Valetta are steep as we know, but the views more than make up for it
