Noosa / Tewantin
Hya everyone hope you all are enjoying our blog so far. We have had a fantastic 9 days in noosa. We started off with a 3 hour journey up from Brisbane to arrive at our new place for two days called yha Halse lodge. It was only 100 metres walk from the beach which was lovely. Another reason we chose this place was that it had free surfboard hire so that was a great perk for us.
We didn't arrive till late afternoon so we pretty much dumped our bags off and headed down to the beach to check out the surfing competition that was going on. We were very lucky to be in noosa for the semi finals and final of the comp we couldn't of timed it any better. The competition was taking place on the main beach right near the headland. There was a lovely walk up along the rocks where you could sit and watch all the surfers and listen to what they had to do to score the best. At the end of the day before sunset the veterans ventured into the sea. These were surfer legends the oldest to enter the water was a bloke of 70 years it was incredible to watch. When they all come out they all posed for a photo I grabbed one so you can see the 70 year old legend.
We got an early night and made our way down to the beach the next day as we fancied getting back in the water and surfing ourselves. We surfed for afew hours before getting some lunch and watching the rest of the finals. Once the finals were all finished they put on some entertainment in the water for everyone. There was a session when there was two people on a surf board and they called it a tandem. It was like strictly come dancing but on a surf board riding the waves. It was brilliant to watch everyone was cheering them all on Lauren was loving it. I'm glad she didn't suggest we did that as I think we would of been a laughing stock and plus we still struggle to even Stand up haha . It was a great weekend and the weather was a lovely 30+
We wanted to make the most of the board hire so we got up early again on the Sunday and went and surfed for the morning as we were getting picked up by dean and the boys late afternoon from our hostel. It was really nice to see dean and the boys and they took us back to the house in Tewantin which is a ten minute drive into noosa. We got nicely settled in to their house and dean and Caroline prepared our dinner which was really nice we had SHARK with homemade chips. It was fresh out the water that day it was what dean and the boys had caught. I never thought I would of ate shark but it was so so nice and it helped as dean is a chef so it was cooked beautiful.
In the week we made a trip to the Australia zoo we were really excited to visit steve Irwin's zoo. I used to watch all his programs he was absolutely crazy. We were there all day and it was as lovely zoo. There was a great show they put on in the crocesum for everyone to watch which included every animal possible. They fed a 5 metre long crocodile which was really good making him run in and out of the made up swamp. Lauren got to hold a koala bear which has been her dream since arriving in oz so we got a lovely photo with one for a memory. The zoo was really big and it was good to see that the animals had a lot of room to move around in. It was a good day out.
We were very lucky as dean and Caroline let us borrow there bikes all week while they were at work to get around it was so helpful. It was a 30 minute bike ride Into noosa main beach so we did that most days and made the most of the beautiful beach watching the surfers. Later in the week one late afternoon we were treated and dean and the boys took us out on their boat and we went the whole way up the river right up to the spit, where you go out into the ocean. It was great fun and the boys showed us their fishing skills At the marina which was a laugh.
We visited the national park and done a 11km walk , half of it along the coast and the rest through the park. We reached the peak of what was called hells gates. It's known for where a lot of people go to commit suicide as none of it is fenced off and it's a long way down into crashing waves with barefaced rocks. Somewhere we didn't want to get to close to the edge not even for a photo. We did plan to surf in the afternoon but we were shattered by the Time we returned to main beach and spent the rest of the day relaxing under the palm trees up on the grassland.
On the Saturday we all ventured out for the day we set off to one of Australia's big markets in Edmundi. It was full of arts and crafts with some great food stalls with little corner coffee stalls. After an hour there we travelled to visit a waterfall with rock pools which was great fun and tested all our fitness even the lads. Jack and nat were like spidermen hanging off all the rocks and vines. All this walking around in the heat meant a trip to mooloolaba beach to cool off In the sea. We then grabbed Some Lunch from the local bakery before heading to cotton tree lake where the water was pure still and really pleasant. We all sat down to enjoy our lunches before a woman from behind us started shouting a boy was drowning about 100 metres away from us. The boys mother come over and didn't say much and he didn't look very convincing trying to swim he was a long way out of his depth and weren't moving at all. He started waving his arms about and I thought .......great I'm going to have to go in as there was noone else about. I made a dash for it into the water and swam out to him as fast as I could dean was in pursuit aswell just behind me. We both underestimated how far he was away I was so so tired by the time I got to him I could hardly breathe. The kid was struggling big time. Soon after a bloke got to us with a canoe and we all held onto that and he brought us back into shore. So now I call dean the hoff man and I'm supposed to be Pami hahahahahahahahaha. That's my deed done for the year lol.
On our way back we stopped off at sunshine beach and a lookout going back into noosa we had a great day with the Bessson's it was so much fun. We got up early on Sunday as jack had his first AFL soccer game of the season. He played really well and his team won which was good so he was really happy. We all hit the beach after that and hit some waves on the body boards. The boys were racing down the waves to see who would win .....even me and dean raced aswell and i lost by a fraction hahaha. That night we went down to noosa surf club for a lovely meal overlooking the headland and beach it was stunning.
We've had a fantastic time in Noosa it has been one of mine and Lauren's favourite spots in Australia so far it's beautiful here and the time has flown by. It was a pleasure to stay with the Bessson's and we've had a great time with them over this past week. We're sad to be leaving their lovely home most of all we will miss there great food they have cooked for us , we've eaten like kings this last week and the food has been divine.
We leave early tomorrow morning to head to Fraser Island where we will be driving 4/4 trucks along the beach and camping for three nights. We're try to update as soon as we get wifi
