So after our journey on the bus, with the poor boy in the toilet the whole way and our bodies aching everywhere, it was great to be greeted by ash as soon as we got off. It was so lovely to see him, and we didn't miss trying to search for our hostel with our big rucksacks, we were so excited for some home comforts and a relaxing week.
As soon as we arrived ash took us to a lovely beachside bar for a cold beer, and we had great fun catching up. Before it was too late we headed back, and we can't explain how nice it was to be in an actual house!!! It goes without saying that we slept like babies all night long! The next day we were up nice and early to go with ash to take his little girl Evie who is six to school. It was lovely to see her again and I couldn't believe how grown up she was! Luckily ash had the day off, so he took us around everywhere like a tour guide helping us get our bearings! We had a great day, and saw so much of byron and Lennox head, the scenery here is absolutely stunning. We even saw a beach wedding, with all the males in board shorts with surf boards! We spent the night, catching up with Paula and ash who constantly had us in fits of laughter.
The next day we decided to stay in Lennox head, ash lives directly opposite the beach it is perfect! We did a clifftop coastal walk which was beautiful, we stopped for ages at a place called the point, watching surfer for hours, it soon hit me and lee that we have a long way to go before we can call ourselves surfers!!
We spent a couple of days in byron, we really liked it here, it is a small relaxed hippie town with beautiful beaches and great waves. One day we both hired boards and spent the entire day in the water. We had great fun, at one point the waves were massive. I was too nervous to go too far out as the waves were so big and it is so hard getting passed them. Lee managed to get out deep, so could catch the waves before they broke. He done so well and stood up on some massive waves, it was great watching him. I took the camera with me and he instructed me to get some pictures of him on top of the waves. The pressure was on! It was such a struggle for me to get any decent pictures, as lee was so deep and by the time he was on the waves, it was being chucked about by it breaking. I was being thrown all over the place. Lee is always complained about my photo taking skills, fortunately for me not long after the battery run out! Phew!
Our second day in byron, in the morning we decided to do the famous walk to the lighthouse, around cape byron. It was a two hour long walk, and it the boardwalk starts with a narrow nature trail through coastal forests. After a lot of sweating and panting we finally reached the lighthouse, which was built in 1901. It was worth the trek as you got amazing views of the whole of byron, the water is crystal clear, we were gutted as in between May and November you can see whales migrating from a spot. One the way back, it was just as hard going down as it was up we reached the most easterly point in mainland Australia. We passed some great beaches, wategos beach (which was stunning), captain cooks lookout and finally walked along the pass, this was our favourite as it was a top spot for surfing then back to main beach. We really enjoyed it and spent the rest of the day surfing!
We had a few movies nights with ash and Paula which was great fun with lots of sweets of course. We watched 12 years a slave, mainly because it had won all the awards, it was very sad. We also watched wolf creek, a horror, which is about backpackers getting murdered whilst travelling Australia, I know we must be crazy! We also had lots of BBQs, mine and lees favourite, Paula treated us to steak and me and lee loved it! Friday night we had English fish n chips, our first fish and chips since we have been gone and they were delicious.
We spent Saturday morning playing with Evie, she was so good at all the games she beat me and lee at every one and we were trying our hardest. You can imagine lee wasn't impressed he hates loosing. We also spent hours doing drawing tutorials, lee drew an amazing shark and wouldn't stop going on about how it was better than mine! As it was our last day and the weather was shining, we decided to go for one last walk along the beautiful beach and up the cliff. To our amazement we spotted 4/5 dolphins jumping out the waves. It was great to watch and I was so happy we saw them, although unfortunately we didn't have the camera, typical!! After the action filled morning of games, lee crept off to the bed to have a nap, Evie had worn him out!!!
We can't believe the week is already over, we had a truly amazing time with ash, Paula and Evie, we were so lucky to stay with them and were very spoilt! We will miss them all, it's been a great chill out. We now have a two hour bus journey to our next stop, surfers paradise for four days, back to dorm life!!
We have tried to upload our pictures on the computers in the new hostel and unfortunately they will not upload, we will try and find another computer soon and get them on as soon as we can!
Will update soon! Lots of love xxx
