So yesterday (Sunday) was a day of rest, route planning, nice eating (cooked breakfast and steak dinner in the van), laundry and reading Jack Reacher books. Early to rise and out. Breakfast at Cracker Barrel and onto the Houston Space Center. Lots of original space artefacts to see and films on the largest screen in Texas. I did the tram tour which takes you into the Johnson space center- ie where the actual work takes place and we went into the control room from where all shuttle missions were controlled. Awoke at 5am this morning to a blowing gale. Hmmm do I go or do I stay? Staying is going to cost me $100 so no contest! Decided to try and beat the morning rush hour so was 'wheels rolling' at 07:20 and onto the interstate 10. Wind was blowing the van around a bit and the rain squalls needed turbo windscreen wiperage. Day 2 and a total of 730 miles to New Orleans. So far have travelled through 6 states: North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Time difference is now 6 hours. Damn hot during the trip and my cab Aircon is not keeping up with the heat. I'll have to get it re-gassed. Even when the heavens opened and a gale force wind blew it was still sweltering hot.
