Day one...
Well, pre-travel we had a bit of a hiccup - Crown Currency Exchange went bust! We'd ordered £300 worth of US Dollars to be delivered on Monday 4th October and guess what, that's the day they went into administration - typical!
Oh, and Therese is full of cold.
The first test was the flight from Manchester to London. After a 1hr drive to the airport, me and Therese were desperate for the toilet and had to jump out at departures leaving Carmel and Brian sat on double-yellows - not a good start considering we'll have 8 hour bus journeys on our travels.
Checked-in, had a coffee, then headed to the Security Checks. After a tearful goodbye and a marathon waving session (even the security guy was waving at Carmel and Brian), we made it through security no problems...until this woman trots over with a swab stick, wipes it all over Therese's rucksack and sticks it in a scanner. I asked what it was for, and she said it's to check for explosives residue. I asked if she had found any......she just raised her eye brows and smiled whilst Therese dragged me away before I said anything else as stupid.
Landed in Heathrow and headed onto our luxury hotel, Travelodge. Well, luxury compared to the squats we'll be staying in. Met up with some mates and had our last Pizza Express for 6 months.
Tomorrow backpacking starts for real - the big flight to Beijing!
