I did not want to get up this morning. Lee was like a spring chicken 'Nic it's time to get up. Nic. Nic' sssshhhhh 5 more minutes! It was 6am. We'd just got used to getting up early in Australia then we travel forward in time by 3 hours.
I got up at 6:45 but I didn't go back asleep it just took Lee 45 mins to unpack then repackage his bag.... I'm used to watching this now. OCD! Oh and he sounds like an elephant whilst doing it so I had no chance of dosing back off. I do not know how he manages to make so much noise? Anyway.... We were heading to Raglan today, a world famous surf spot, but we made a few stops along the way.
The guide pulled over by 2 huge trees along Waikato River. Apparently Maori people used to hug the tree for luck on their journeys so me and Lee gave it a little hug. It's huge. Even with me and Lee stretching are arms around it we still needed 2 more people. A little further down the road we saw the sun rise over the river and stopped to try and capture it.
When we got to Hamilton we found out its the place were the rocky horror show was written so in his honour theirs a statue of the lead transvestite Riff Raff with dance instructions on the wall?!
Before the food shop the driver set a challenge. He said a member of the group had to nominate themselves to cook the cheapest meal for the group. An Aussie lad and his girlfriend (both with awkward dispositions) put themselves forward and guesstimated $6pp.....
After the drive and shop we arrived at Raglan. We sat at the side of the beach to watch the surfers and there were loads of them. They looked like baby seals. I want to surf! They look so free and they make it look effortless.
The driver took us to our hostel, up a steep hill in the bush. After we were checked in ($29pppn) we went to the communal area and bad teacher was on. So we watched the film then headed to a viewing platform, on the grounds that looked out over the mountain range, the Tas sea and whale bay.
It's very chilled out here. We had free time so we headed back to the beach and chilled out watching people learning how to surf. As we were walking up the hill on the way back I thought I saw something fly into my hair. When I touched my head I felt something so I said to Lee 'is there something in my hair?' He glanced and said no so I touched my head and felt something so, in a probably higher pitch than normal I said 'Lee, there's something in my hair. I can feel it. Get it out, get it out!' We stopped, he checked and said 'Nic theres nothing there' so I thought I'm going to have to be brave and get it myself because Lee's no help. As I touched my head I felt it again so I went to grab it and..... It was my braid! Doh.
When we got back to the hostel we watched fight club. I sat next to my Dutch friend, that I've still not found out the name of, she's only 18 and pointed out the age gap as soon as we met (I like her coz that's what I used to do before I was the oldest one in the room - not including Lee obviously)
The people who had volunteered to cook had started the food so we offered to help and got put on table set up duty. It was easy. 23 plates, stacked next to 23 knives and forks.
When food was served I looked at it and looked at Lee. Mmmm prison food. It was like a sketch from Oliver without the 'please sir can I have some more' just the slop! It was minced meat with veg (it was swimming in orange sauce - I'm going to pretend I don't know it's the melted fat) and rice mixed with veg (the rice was half done half not, for every fluffy piece of rice I got a crunch) ... Noodles cooked by moi and Lee tomorrow I think!
We were told the drive way to the hostel had some glow worms so me, lee and my nameless Dutch friend went to have a look. There were! Neon lights stuck out from the rock along the road side at head height! I really don't like the dark. It's pitch black on the road so I wanted to get back ASAP.
Once we got back to the hostel I did a spot of whatsapping then we headed to bed for an early night.
