Sorry its been quite a while since the last update but we have been having too much fun!! We will try and get up to date in the next few days.....
Soooooooo.........Nimbin
I thought this deserved a blog to itself due to its randomness. Its a hippy town where people moved to in the 60s and have basically sat and got high all their lives. So its easy to understand how we met quite a few interesting characters! We went on a trip from Byron Bay on a bus called THC (The Happy Coach) - how appropriate! The place was full of legal high shops called Happy High Herbs and Bringabong, and you couldnt walk more than 5 metres without getting offered some cookies!! We decided to stay for a few days as the views were amazing. We stayed in a Teepee and even shared it with a lizard - this wasnt part of the package though! There were some hammocks from the trees so it was nice to chill out there and take in the scenery.
We met a bloke called Jonny Ganja - yes i know it says it all! He comes to the hostel just to mix with the travellers and smokes a lot of weed during his stay!! He was quite possibly the weirdest person I have ever met in my life and sitting down and having a conversation was an experience in itself! He confessed that weed was his religion and every now and again he would stand up and sing a song about water or something else. We were also joined by a bloke who we had seen walking around the hostle by himself smoking a pipe with loads of feathers sticking out of it. He was in his own little world.
We decided to escape the hostel for a while to try and get back to the real world and went for a walk around the hostel on a track that should have taken 40 minutes. However, it took us over 2 hours because we kept getting lost. Sounds ridiculous i know but there were forks in the track and no signs to show you where to go. Just before we left we were warned to cover up because there were leaches everywhere. Not what i needed to know really. We headed off and heard some birds that sounded almost electronic and later found out they were called whip birds. Then.......we saw a cow. Then about a dozen cows. They all looked at us and then they all stampeded into the woods! Luckily not in our direction!!! Imagine that.....all the nasty snakes and spiders in Australia and we get killed by a stampede of cows. How English! Its not like we could make a quick escape either because we had no idea how to get out! Luckily we survived to tell the tale though.
Later when we were chilling by our Teepee an owl came and perched itself on the post next to us. Cant remember the last time I have seen an owl in England so it was nice to see it.
After a weird few days it was back on the bus and back to Byron.....and reality. A good few days though :-)
Next stop Bisbane
Chow!
