Hi everyone, Gary and I realized that the last blog never let you know that we sent it. It is below. We are now in Jackson, MS for whole foods and one night stay at a beautiful State Park. We have never been more grateful for all the local farmers, organic foods, Jimbos, Whole Foods, and Trader Joes in California. There is one Whole Foods in all of Mississippi which we were so excited to find!
Tomorrow we head up to Alabama for some RV work and possibly some work for me. We will keep you posted.:)
Hello Everybody... it's Gary writing his first Blog to all of you. We're have now visited our 9th State > Washington and Oregon have been our favorite so far > for sooooo many reasons. Louisiana > loved visiting it and loooved leaving it... A swamp tour, plantation tour, museums, and New Orleans (arrived by Ferry) were the highlights. "If it ain't fried, I ain't eating it" which seems to be the food motto in the south, but you also gotta add the rich spicy creamy sauces and we are amazed the Natives survive past 30 years old!!
Baton Rouge and a plantation visit was really cool. There were 3rd/4th generation descendants of the slaves still working at the plantation > We were amazed. New Orleans was great, trying to find anything healthy to eat was our biggest challenge: fried super rich and spicy cream sauces, pecan pralines, coconut chocolate-dipped macaroons and Cafe du Monde beignets were just some of the delicacies we savored and shrimp creole was delicious and gumbo too> lucky we got out of "dodge" with our hearts still beating...
In New Orleans I gotta get a plug in for the WWII National Museum. Wow!!! It was fantastic, graphics and text were very reader friendly. In WWII my dad was a navigator in the Air Force and my mom a civilian working in the Signal Corp (making documentaries and instruction films for the servicemen). For the first time, I really began to understand how our nation came together, almost everyone, to either fight the war or on the home front, the industrialization needed to make and create all the weapons and everything else to support the troops. Even M&M's, that wouldn't melt in your hand, were "invented" for the servicemen. We owe the life we all have today to what was truly the "greatest generation, ever!!" Laura had a great time in the art museums.
As many of you know, I'm a popcorn nut. So, I've been on a mission, in every city we visit to find the gourmet popcorn stores (ie Popology, Southern Kernals, etc). Amazingly, most cities have one and I've so enjoyed munching down...
We're in Mississippi now, staying through the end of the week. Staying in a really beautiful state park and camped right alongside a beautiful lake. Our new best friend, "Honk," a goose, hangs around our campsite all the time and almost constantly HONKS!!
Laura is having fun leading some crystal bowl classes and meditation along with even working with some private clients. She is enjoying working and taking some west coast dance classes with her friend!
For my Bday Laura got me a iPhone 6+ > wow, it's amazing and feels like I'm carrying around my own iPad (well almost). Mastering "personal hotspot" usage have saved us since staying in State Parks which we like the most, has spotty WiFi at best.
Next week we'll be heading to Red Bay, Alabama where our motorhome was manufactured. Gotta get a few minor things fixed and have lots of questions to ask. Should be there about a week or so then onto So Florida where we'll be staying for a good part of the winter. More to come...
Home Depot and Target have also become our home away from home. Not that they are our favorite stores, but as we move from town to town, state to state, it's great because it's easy to return things > in the next town or state, almost one stop shopping and they've got generous return policies.
Best to All of You...
Gary and Laura
