hello hello!
We are now in siem reap, a city rich in culture and amazing temples! It's a lively place with friendly people and good food :)
Our first day started a 3day visit to the ancient temples of Angkor! These massive temples are in varying conditions, some old and weathered, some were pretty much piles of rubble and completely taken over by nature! We went to a temple where tomb raider was filmed - trees growing all over (on top) of the buildings - so cool! We spent hours walking around each temple and had a tuk tuk driver who took us to each one. They are amazing buildings, the pictures don't really do any justice!
Walking around and up and down the steep steps in the heat is pretty exhausting! And they do kind of get a bit samey, so one day would probably have been enough for us! There were lots of sweet little kids around selling stuff and I was quite bad at saying no when they just stand and look sad at you! Some of them were really funny and they all seemed like smart kids, shame they aren't in school! Although the ones we met had school in the mornings which is better than nothing!
Other than the temples we went to a restaurant that kohei wanted to see, it had pictures taken by a famous Japanese photographer called taizo, who was killed during the Khmer rouge. Kind of kohei's hero, he ate from a list of taizo's favorite meals, he was really excited to be there- was sweet! We played lots of card games and the boys drank beer! Just chilling out.
We went to a few markets, day and night markets but trying not to buy much, so many bargains though! We saw a man jump through a hoop with knives around the edge and it was on fire!! Crazy man!
Our last day we went to Angkor in the morning and had planned to go to a floating village and to see sunset at Angkor- BUT after one of the temples we were near the place where taizo is buried and the driver said he'd take us, but he just went passed it and long story short- him and kohei nearly had a proper fight because he wouldn't take us! Driver got really s***ty but we convinced him to wait half hour and kohei got a moterbike to the place!
When he got back we went back to guesthouse the driver wanted his money but wouldn't accept Cambodian riel( you can use riel or dollars here) and argued some more and wanted $40 tip on top! Steve didn't give him it and he wouldn't take us to the floating vilage or anything else. We were glad to be rid of him in the end! But gutted we didn't see more!
That night we were joined by kohei's friend from chang mai. Had a nice last meal in Cambodia and had a few drinks and played pool. The boys got their arses kicked by a ladyboy! Haha!
Back to Thailand next, up north to finish our trip!
