After our mad rush to the airport we did make our flight and arrived back into Argentina a few hours later where we jumped into a taxi and unknowingly took our lives in our hands as we were driven through the streets of Buenos Aires by a wannabe Lewis Hamilton who wouldn't have known a speed limit if it had hit him in the face! We should really have been used to this but i was still gripping the seat with my eyes closed! By some stroke of pure luck we did arrive at the hostel in one piece and were checked in by a lovely man who showed us (and a lady who me and Katy believe to be a lady of the night!) to our rooms.
Next day we headed out on a mission to hit some clothes shops and book tickets to the tango - we were very unsuccesful on the first point (sure you'll be glad to hear that Dad!) but we did manage to book the tango tickets after tramping around most of Buenos Aires more interesting areas - a street full of mannequins anyone?!? the man who sold us the tickets was particulalry enthusiastic and it wouldn't have suprised me at all if he had suddenly grabbed hold of one of us and given a demonstration of what we could expect from the night! We then headed back to our hostel to prepare for the night and got a nice suprise in the form of Dayna and Emma who had just got in from Iguassu. Being in Argentina it was of course time for steak mmmmmm!!! So Dayna led the way in true tour guide style to a nice little restaurant with amazing steak before we hailed a cab and got stuck with a rather loud and crazy Spanish man who poor Dayna had to chat to because she was the only one of us who could speak Spanish! He dropped us off at our hostel only for us to find that the people who were coming to pick us up had already been and gone so we then had to get back into the taxi for another tour around the city where the driver got a little lost. We did however arrive in time for the tango which had rather a lot of operatic singing and men with string with balls attached to the ends interspersed amongst it. It was a really nice night though and it had been lovely to catch up with the girls again.
Next day was our last in Buenos Aires and South America as a whole which was rather sad! Dayna and Emma moved into our hostel as we checked out and then we headed out again for a bit of shopping. This time we were a little more successful as Dayna bought up half of the shopping street of palermo! in the afternoon we then went to Boca - the home of the football stadium and the brightly painted houses which of course was cause for lots more photos. We saw some more tango and i indulged my postcard habit before getting into another taxi to get back to the hostel (the buses had completely failed us since you apparently needed some kind of card which were nowhere to be found) this taxi of course was similar to all the rest in that by getting in it you took your life well and truly in your hands as it ducked and dived between cars and attempted to fit into spaces which were clearly far, far too small. Katy for a change actually realised that we were surely about to die this time (she's normally completelty oblivious) and at one point the driver had us all screaming for him to stop as he appeared not to notice the car that he was about to plough into. I imagine he was pretty gratefull when we finally got out of his car and left him in peace!
By now it was nearly time for us to leave so after having our final Empanada and make oursleves sick with jam tart we said our goodbyes, ordered our taxi and went to retrieve our bags from storage. Now normally Katy and i tend to make some kind of embarassing entrance into these hostels but just to shake things up a bit this time we were to make an embarassing exit. I had just got into the luggage room which by the way Katy had actually locked me in earlier on in the day so it had already slightly scarred me, this time however she follows me into the room, takes one look at the floor and makes a loud gasping sound. Thinking that she'd just spotted a rat perched on my backpack or a snake slithering towards my toes i (understandably i believe) darted out of the room with lightening quick speed practically flattening Katy against the wall (every woman for themselves right?!) in my desire to leave. As we (Dayna and Emma included) collapsed into uncontrollable laughter and the man from the reception desk hurried over looking concerned, Katy had to attempt to explain that she'd just been very shocked to see a H+M bag lying on the floor - a H+M BAG!!! She'd almost given me a heart attck over a H+M bag! By this time we had attracted much attention and the man who ten minutes previously had spoken perfect English was now having trouble understanding us and was peering into the room like he thought somthing dangerus was lurking! Luckily our taxi arrived at this moment and we left Dayna and Emma contemplating just what they were hanging around with as we headed towards our plane and our flight out of South America and into New Zealand!
