We went to Sunshine City near Ikebukuro to get on the Sunset 60 Observatory. There were many shops on our way from the station to Sunshine City and of course we bought some stuff even before we arrived. There were all kind of shops, a gift shop with a Hello Kitty entrance and a big Book Off where Joost could buy to all heart's content. And a big Tokyu Hands. The street was called Sunshine 60 as well, matching the name of the biggest building in the neighbourhood. At the end of the street we found the entrance of the mall. One word to describe it... BIG. With all kinds of shops though clothes had the upper hand. We first found our way to the lift that lead us to the observatory. With great speed (that could be seen on a display) of 600 meters per minute we went up. You could feel that in your ears! In the lift when going up, they turned on some black light to reveal star signs and stars on the wall, very pretty and unexpected. We arrived on time before the sunset, so we could walk around a bit to find the best spots. You could even go one floor up that lead outside but it was very cold. Everybody who entered immediately called out "samui!" (cold). Although it was clear weather Mount Fuji was barely visible, but we sure enjoyed the rest of the view. Eventually we went back inside and explored the rest of the observatory room. There was a souvenir shop that sold (of course) many things from K-On, since a part of the anime took place there, and some other goodies. They even made a place with some lights where you could romantically sit but most people were just relaxing and playing with their phone or even sleeping! After Joost took a picture with Michelle and Dennis behind the illuminated heart display, it was finally time to take the pictures of the sunset and later on the night view of Tokyo. Mount Fuji was amazing and really lighted up at sunset and some great pictures were taken. The rest of Tokyo lighted up as well when the sun went down, very nice. It was kind of a disappointment that the Tokyo Sky tree did not lit up. Only a few lights for planes. Tokyo Tower of course was brightly lit. After we took enough pictures we went down and found a Katsudon restaurant where we had dinner. We were just in time for the rush of people, when we went outside people were sitting on chairs outside the restaurants, waiting for a table to become free. After dinner the exploration of the rest of the shops and we even found Namja Town, a small amusement park with a high entrance fee so we did not go in. When we finished, we explored a little bit of the rest of the neighborhood before we went home.
