Byron Bay has been pretty awesome!! After arriving quite late the first night I decided to treat myself to a bottle of wine before chilling out for the evening as the next morning I had some kayaking with dolphins to do :)
After waking up the next morning with a banging headache I was tempting to cancel the whole day and I was so glad I didnt. Upon arriving at the beach it was decided as I was alone then I would be partnered with one of the guides a Scottish guy called Callum in the kayak sooo glad I actually was with someone who knew what they were doing. We were given a quick briefing before we had to launch into the sea against the waves slightly scary but really satisfying once you have fought against them without capsizing. We then spent the next few hours rowing around the sea and were really lucky yo spot loads of dolphins leaping and somersaulting through the waves absolutely awesome definitely doesnt compare to anthing you would see in captivity. I did get quite bad motion sickness though out there and was encouraged to jump in the water and swim around to combat this great idea until I had to try and get back in the bloody kayak. I tried once by myself without success so Callum grabbed my life jacket to yank me up only for me to fall out the other side lol I did eventually get back in by myself thankfully and then it was time to go back to shore, you would think this would be easier however with the size of the waves that day it wasnt long before we capsized going in and I swam frantically back to shore with the waves towering above me. It was a brilliant way to spend the morning and definitely something I wont forget.
The rest of the day was spent chilling out generally and I met one of the girls in my room Rachel from Manchester and we decided to get the best pizza I have ever had and a bottle of wine, not neccessarily exciting but a nice chilled night well deserved. To be fair we were also trying to avoid the other two girls in the room, one was really lovely but the other has to be the most inconsiderate, messy and bratty girl I have ever come across - definite downside of hostel living!!
Our last fully day in Byron so we decided to just take it easy in the day and wander around the town bare foot because thats what seems to happen here, its actually a really cool place really chilled with loads of little hippy shops and street performers to keep you entertained, also loads of retaurants with gluten free food so ofcourse Im happy. That evening we decided a night out was needed to mark the last night so the evening was started with two bottles of wine whilst we packed and got ready all was going well until we looked outside to torrential rain (I swear this bloody weather seems to be following me) no bother we were drunk and ready to go out so we headed to a nearby bar called Aquarius where jelly wrestling and cheap drinks were the order of the day, I will say me and Rachel didnt get involved with the jelly wrestling but it was bloody hilarious to watch!! After a few hours and way too much alcohol we headed back to the hostel and ended up looking like drowned rats for our efforts.
Anyway it has been fab here but today I fly to Melbourne to be reunited with loads of friends and to start the job hunt. Wish me luck......... XX
