We were driving for about 3 hours out of Hanoi before we reached what could be called countryside. WE just saw a sprawling mess of buildings outside of the city and eventually came a landscape limestone karsts rising out of the flat lushes rice paddies. Then we finally reached the ocean! So we arrived at the airport in Hanoi and tried to get into the city for as little as we could. An hour journey cost us less than 2 bucks!! when taxis usually go for $15. We first haggled with a taxi driver who we bartered down to 10 bucks then we got 10 mins down the road and he said you must pay an extra $20, Chris got majorly pissed off, told them to stop the car and grabbed me and got out by the side of the motorway in the middle of nowhere! haha the car drov...

We soon realized that the government curfew of 11pm was strictly enforced after we arrived in Vang Vieng after 11pm hoping to find a room. We trekked over a toll bridge and around hotels trying to find somewhere open but nowhere, finally stumbled upon an up market resort type place with a great room by the river at $20 a night it was pretty steep but it was Chris' birthday so so be it.
