My final entry from this trip, which ends up in Norway after only 4 months. I guess that shows you never know what will happen, last time I stayed longer than planned, and this time shorter. Anyhow, I am excited to come back for some snow and the winter Olympics.
Dubai was a really nice place to come to after Sri Lanka. Everything here is so nice and clean, it even smells great all the time! Our hotel room was more like an apartment, with a washing machine, kitchen, and everything. It was so nice to have a clean room and a soft bed, and even room service. Real luxury!
I am glad we had 4 and a half days here, we could easily have had a week, there is so much to do.First evening, we just had a walk around the nearby area, and went to a mall. Second day was sightseeing, so we could the free shuttle bus the hotel had, down to the beach, and decided to walk to the famous seven star hotel. I didn't think it would be that far! But the distances here are massive! So we did quite a lot of walking, but we saw a lot of the city, and we finally made it to the 7 star hotel, took some pictures, and then took a taxi to the tallest building in the world. And it is really tall! One kilometer to be exact! The Dubai mall was next door, so we had a look in there too. So many malls here!
Wednesday, we had a sleep in, and a walk around the hotel, before an afternoon desert safari. It was pretty s***, and very touristy, but at least we can say we have been out in the desert, which really is what most of this country is anyways. It's pretty amazing, how flat and deserty everything around here is. On the safari, we sat in a 4-wheel drive and drove around the sand dunes, rode a poor camel for a second, did some sandboarding, and had dinner while watching a belly dancer, who resembled an eastern European stripper a lot more than an Arabic belly dancer!
Yesterday was spent at the Wild Wadi waterpark, a water theme park. We had a lot of fun in all the slides, and I even went in the tallest and scariest one. Yay! It is winter here now, so it is a little bit chilly in the air (20 degrees), so in the shade we got a bit cold actually. We found a slide that went upwards, where you sit in tubes, and it lasted forever, with different roads to take, so we went on that for many times!
Today, we checked out at 8 am in the morning, and went on a mountain safari. And even though the tour itself was pretty bad, we did get to cross the border to Oman, which means I have 41 countries on my list. It was pretty weird how as soon as we got into Oman, the scenery changed, and there were suddenly lots and lots of mountains. Bobby had been to Oman before, and says that the whole country is just mountains, so I guess I have seen most of what Oman has to offer!
We have had a good time here, I have been pleasantly surprised, and it is a place I'd like to come back to. Just for shopping and fun! Sitting in the airport now. Our flight does not leave until 2 am, but it is midnight now, so we can soon check in. Feels weird to be going back home again, but I am looking forward to it. And the winter Olympics are starting today. Yay!
That's it for this trip. Hope it won't be long until the next, and I'll see most of you guys pretty soon! Thanks for reading my journal! J
