Hi Guys.
Hope everyone is good back home. It's warm and wet out here!!
We arrived into Fiji late on Thursday and ended up staying in what we thought was quite anice place, it had two swimming pools and a nice bar area. However, a cuple of days on and Kim is covered in bed bug bites which must have been from there - yuk!!
Froday wasn't great. we spent hours wandering around flood ridden Nadi, looking for an ATM as we had no Fijian cash and no water to drink. All the machines were broken and everything was shut due to the flood damage. Great!! After hours of walking we managed to find an ATM where we got some cash then stocked up on supplies. We spent the afternoon in the bar. Nadi was a right mess, as you can imagine and there wasn't alot else to do as it was lashing down - like we said, warm and wet!!
Saturday, we got picked up at 8.00 to start our trip around the main island. We were told there was supposed to be 35 of us on the bus but there were only eight of us as lots of people had cancelled due to the floods. Our first stop was Natadola Beach, the world's 7th best beach. After a swim in the lovely warm sea, our guide cooked us a BBQ on the beach. After lunch we visited a local village. We all had to wear sarongs, even the men, that we purchased earlier in the day. When we arrived, the local kids came out to greet us and at the end we bought some postcards from them that they had hand drawn and coloured in. Last stop off point for the day was the Sigatoa sand dunes where we all grabbed bodyboards and jumped down a really steep slope!! Great fun but pretty quick and quite dangerous. One girl came off quite hard and got her face covered in sand!! The bus pulled into Mango Bay resort late afternoon and it was great. The pool and restaurant were right on the beach and after dinner we watched some Fijian dancing.
Sunday morning, we left Mango Bay and headed for our next stop. We were supposed to do a trek through the jungle finishing up river but the trek was cancelled because of landslides due to the floods. Instaed we took a long boat up the river before jumping out into some inner tubes and floating back down through some small rapids. We had lunch on a bamboo raft before heading to some waterfalls where some of us jumped off a few times - great fun!! Afterwards we took the long boat back to the bus and continued on to Uprising resort.. It was a great resort, really nice pool and bar area right on the beach. Tom played volleyball and Kim chilled out by the pool. We had a great dinner in the evening followed by a great buffet breakfast, which was included - we got our monies worth!!
After our lovely breakfast we headed back the way we came as the road the otherside of the island was closed because of the flooding. It was a long drive but we stopped off at on orphanage to see the kids and give some gifts. Afterwards we continued onto Volivoli beach where we decided to stay for a few days and do our PADI Open Water diving course. There wasn't anyone at the resort apart from us. It was great to have the beach and the pool to ourselves. That evening we all had a few drinks and done crab racing - very funny!!
The last few days we've spent completing our diving course. It was brilliant!! We got to do about 5 dives and saw some amazing marine life including a white tip reef shark!!
We left Volivoli today with a new group of people and on the way back to Nadi we stopped off at another local village where we took part in a traditional Kava ceromony. Back at a different Nadi resort now (not the one with bedbugs) and we have just booked up and island stay so we are off to Robinsoe Crusoe Island for four nights!!!
Speak to you soon x
