I arrived in India at about 10 am on Wednesday the 3rd of June and since then it has been an eye opener and one hell of 2 weeks! I met a girl called Abi at the airport and we decided to share a room at the hostel I booked into called Smyle Inn, (its a great hostel and would recommend it to anyone) anyway so we arrive in the main bazaar in Delhi and got the shock of our lives as the taxi driver just disappeared with two of our bags in the middle of chaos they call Delhi, there were so many ppl, it was filthy with electrical wires hanging everywhere and cows and dogs roaming around, and the smell was so disgusting, but he did pop his head around from a corner and said "keep up"!! We went for a wonder around but got harassed so much, but I just could not believe I was finally in India and starting my dream!!
Thursday night I ate a chicken tikka sandwich from a small but clean cafe, that night however I got what has been named Delhi Belly, I went through hell I thought I was dying, if I was not sitting on the toilet with a bucket in-between my legs I was dying on the floor of the bathroom wishing someone would just kill me!! It was 40 degrees and we only had a fan in the room!! The next day at 12 in the afternoon I had to call someone to take me to hospital as I was so dehydrated and weak! I was also meant to be going on a tour of the golden triangle at 7am that morning but was so ill. At the hospital I was seen pretty much straight away thanks to one of the guys at the tour office!! I was shoved in the corner of the hospital corridor for 5 hours on a drip however and it was one of the scariest and tiring days of my life as I felt like death and I had people staring at me as if I was on show. Thank god I had a mobile on me as my mom and Darren kept me calm!
The next few days were so lonely and I still was not well, and I had lost contact with Abi. I did manage to get onto the tour and I had a driver take me to Jaipur for the night to see the pink city (Amber Palace), it was breathtaking, my tour guide whom bribed me into needing him could not stop touching me, but it was nice to hear about the Kings that lived there! We then went to Agra to see the Taj Mahal for a night and that was so beautiful too, it was so hot though that it was so unbearable and I think I just rushed it as I needed to get out of the heat!! No wonder they say June is not the right time to come to India!! I decided to skip my trip to Varanasi as Darren was flying out to India to join me on the Saturday. It was torture waiting for him as it was very scary being alone, cause the minute I walked outside I get bombarded with questions and men trying to take me somewhere!
When Darren arrived he really wanted to see the Taj Mahal so we booked a train ticket to Agra and then one to Varanasi to then go to Nepal, but of course it did not work out the way we wanted as our train from Agra to Varanasi was delayed by 6 hours which would mean staying in a very dodgy train station in Tundla until 3am in the morning, we were so scared and stressed out that we ended up paying 2200 rupees for a taxi to take us back to Delhi!! Darren had only been here less than 24 hours and he hated it, but at least I can say I have come here and have my own experience and my own opinion of the place, just not my cup of tea I am afraid!! The train was so scary too and I won't be doing that again!! Thank god we were not on 3rd class as people were hanging out windows because it was so packed ha-ha got to laugh I spose!
He is here now and the experience in India has been really great but along the way I got ripped off by the tour company, got really ill and have been getting some very stalker like phone calls from an Indian Guy so I am happy to say that we have booked our ticket out of India and I cant wait to get out of this 40 degree weather!!
This country is so 3rd world that I just cant believe that these people live like this and I am so sad to see the animals getting mistreated so much!! It is filth and I can't seem to get my head around the fact that there are countries in this world still living like this!!
A highlight of my journey in India was visiting an orphanage briefly. It was so nice to see that they do have places like that and the children were very friendly and had food and a smile on their faces!
