We had a quick one night stop over in Puerto Viejo. The shuttle bus which brought us over the border said they'd drop us off at our lodgings, which was handy as it turned out we were about twenty minutes out of town along a small dirt road. Tortuguero is all about the sea-turtles (Tortuga is Spanish for turtle) and it's here that a huge number of leatherback turtles come back to lay their eggs in the sand along the shore. Just inland is a huge tropical nature reserve, resplendent with a huge variety of flora and fauna (do you ever get one without the other?). We arrived late afternoon into San José and were heading off super early the next morning (we hadn't heard great reports on the capital so it was just a transfer point). A fast speedboat and a couple of local buses brought us to our next destination of Manuel Antonio, still on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
