Hola from RIO DE JANEIROOO!!!
Well the traditional dresses in Peru and Bolivia have officially been swapped for thong bikinis...I think it´s safe to say we´re in BRAZIL! We landed in Rio on Saturday and started our visit with a favela tour. People in the favela don´t like tourists arriving in minibuses so we each got on the back of a motorbikes and held on for dear life as we were driven full pelt into the favela dodging in between cars and buses- what a way to start off Rio!!!
The next day Flamengos were playing Fluminese in a Rio derby at the maracana stadium (I know, good timing) so we got tickets to sit in the Flamengo stand, equipped ourselves with shirts and flags, and supported our boys who drew 2-2! The atmosphere was incredible! Afterwards we returned to our second home and went to a FAVELA PARTY. These happen every sunday in a huge warehouse, and although there´s a VIP section for us gringos we soon found ourselves in front of the stage partying with the favela dudes! Was like being on Save The Last Dance, haha! In conclusion I´ve decided that I actually quite like the ghetto.
We´ve now said our emotional farewells to our tour group and are back to slumming it with cheap hostels and cockroaches! I also feel it´s necessary to mention how amazingly FIT the cakes are in Brazil, in particular chocolate truffles that are sold everywhere in trollies on the streets, VERY dangerous! Me and Sul in fact got distracted by such beautes on the way back to our hotel one night in Ihla Grande and then got ourselves lost from the group, we were asking everyone how to get back to ´pousada´, but no one seemed to understand us...it was only the next day when Jorge started pissing himself when we were informed that pousada just means small hotel (there were millions) and wasn´t actually the name of our hotel, duhhhh!
We´re moving back to Copacabana this afternoon, staying in a hostel called Mellow Yellow which is supposed to be really fun! Although we might just go back to the favela because we like it so much there (only joking mum). Hope everyone is well back home. I can´t believe it´s september already, it only feels like last week when we were in Santiago. We actually met up with the guys we made friends with on our first night in Chile last night- we got a ferry to a city just outside of Rio and had a barbeque at their house. Me and Rick spent most the night challenging them at table tennis, haha.
Anyway take care, and feel free to message me any gossip or to just say hi!! xxx
