We landed this morning at Keflavik Airport in Iceland. As we landed, the sun was rising on a beautiful day. We took the bus from the airport into Reykjavik. Even though it was only 9am, we headed straight for our rental, hoping for an early check-in or a place to leave our heavy backpacks. Luck was on our side and our studio apartment was ready! We headed straight in and fell right asleep!
We headed back out around lunch time and hit the local grocery store to grab some lunch fixings (since we have our own little kitchen). After eating, we headed out into a somewhat cool, rainy fall day. We checked out the harbour and hiked around to see the as much of the city as we could. The rain stopped and the sun actually came out for the afternoon so we made good tracks - Reykjavik is a beautiful city and easy to get around on foot. We saw the amazing Hallgrimskirkja - the huge Lutheran church in the above picture as well as the Perlan Saga Museum. This museum had a huge dome that gave us amazing panoramic views of the city and surrounding areas (free!), and we were there just as the sun was starting to set. Gorgeous.
We had an interesting dinner at a Mexican restaurant, and are going to head out to see if we can spot any northern lights tonight! Tomorrow we are taking a little tour of the surrounding areas to see some waterfalls, volcanic geysers and of course we also have to check out their most famous National Park!
