So Surf Camp!
We left Byron Bay at 8am with Muppet, our driver. We were in the tiny green bus which was annoying as they are pretty cramped and not very comfortable so we just grinned and beared it, we didn't mind as we were finally altogether going surfing! We had planned this, all the Irish, Gillian, and the whole of Team Extreme! Excellent!
We got to a stop for food, and stocked up for provisions as surfing was going to be tiring we were told. We drove to Spot X Surf Camp which was a really cool place. We paid 50 dollars for a bed, lunch, dinner and breakfast which was great value! It was Gillian, Amber and me and Lynn in a room (like a tiny school mobile with a shower and toilet in...ingenious!) We had lunch which was tasty then got ready for surfing baby!
Surfing surfing surfing. We had a safety briefing and introduction to surfing...we were told we were now about to become some of the coolest people on the planet...something we all loved the sound of! We were kitted up in a sexy (not!) wetsuit and a board which are actually massive! We were learning on foam boards, not fibre glass. We carried the boards down to the deserted beach and then did a little lesson on the sand on the boards. It was going to be easy! Haha I wish!
The minute we all got into the sea, and who were first to stand up, pretty much on their first waves but Kyle and Liam! How typical! To be fair to them, they snowboard up in Manchester snow dome thing but even so, it was annoying seeing as the first ten times I tried I nose-dived straight into the wave - this is called 'wiping out' and Kyle in particular found this hilarious EACH time! After pure strength, patience and determination I managed to get onto my knees which was a start, and then TWICE I got to standing! But only for like a split second, but still! It all counts!! Surfing is definitely much harder than it looks and by the end of it, all of us guys had blisters everywhere and we were so tired from the strength of the waves and constant water up the nose. Wiping out is not fun.
A photographer had been taking photos of us all and I featured in about 2, whilst Liam was teacher's pet and there were about 20 of him all standing up, looking cool as a cucumber! Impressive Liam, well done!
We had a lovely, well-deserved dinner then we were treated to a travelling magic show entertainer from Belgium who had a great sense of humour, but apparently very obvious magic tricks. Me, being gullible was amazed by all of them, till Kyle couldn't believe how gullible I am so had to explain all of them. The bubble burst :( Haha.
We all had a few drinks under the stars (surf camp was waaaaaayyy cooooool!) and someone started the most stupid game ever...'flip the cup onto the beer bottle'. Just a simple plastic cup, trying to flip it onto the neck of a beer bottle! Well anyway, all 11 of us were having a go at this stage, it was SO frustrating!! We were playing it for about half an hour, we were all so desperate to succeed, then all of a sudden, little Lynn from Shetland came through and triumphed! Genius! It was a proud moment for the Scot :) Naturally we needed an equally addictive game to play after this so we whipped out uno and played that for a bit. Then we all called it a night, we had to be up at stupid o'clock the next morning to leave (7am!) for SYDNEY!!!!!!
