Today we were on the boat cruising all day. This morning we slept in and gained an hour while we were sleeping, which we had forgotten about. I had a pedicure scheduled for 10 am and got a call at that time reminding of it and of the time change. So, I rushed up there for it and ate breakfast while having my pedicure-not a bad start for the day!
Besides that, we played bingo for awhile, had lunch and I played another 9 holes of virtual golf. We also played in a blackjack tournament. At the time, Chris was the #1 qualifier and I was #2-Chris with 3600 and me with 3200. However, by the end Chris was #3 and I was tied for #6 (out of 6 spots). I played against one other woman in a 3 hand playoff. I busted the first two hands; so needless to say, I did not come close to continuing my luck. In the tournament, Chris started very well, but did not end well. He ended in 4th place out of 7 spots (the 7th spot was taken via raffle ticket). So we will be coming home with lots of princess casino hats and t-shirts!
We had a very nice dinner at the Bayou again, this time on the casino's buck. Since we were somewhat regulars down there, the casino manager (named Trevor) gave us a voucher to pay for the cover charge for dinner. Usually there is a cover charge at some of the nicer venues for dinner. The Bayou is usually $15 per person. We each got an appetizer, I got their salad with avocado (which is awesome!) and Chris got the shrimp and I got the lobster tail. It was all very good. They also included a cocktail on the house. They also offered a bottle of wine to take home. Unfortunately since we're flying out of Canada, there are restrictions on things like that, so I wouldn't be able to take it ashore to get it home. You could tell they don't hand those things out often and they treated us very well at dinner.
After dinner we got back to the room and cleaned up and packed everything up. I also went out and took some pictures and watched the sun set. Tomorrow we must vacate the room by 8 am and we get off the ship and off to our hotel room in Vancouver and spend the day in Vancouver before flying home to Chicago on Tuesday.
This has truly been an amazing trip. I encourage everyone considering a big trip to Europe, South America, Hawaii, The Mediterranean or anywhere in between, strongly consider a trip to Alaska. Honestly, after being here and doing a trip of this magnitude, I would definitely do a trip like this again before I would go to Europe. I understand it's a different type of trip, but the money you spend on a trip to Alaska is totally worth it. Having said that, this is not a trip to bring children on. I am grateful we were able to do this before we had children yet we were young enough to do what we wanted. The activities on this type of cruise are definitely geared towards adults over 21. If we didn't spend time in the casino, go to the bars and listen to the live music, I don't know what we would have done. This is a sightseeing type of trip, not a sit around the pool in the sun cruise. Honestly usually it was too cold or cloudy for that.
While we thoroughly enjoyed this trip and have enjoyed being on vacation, we are ready to come home. I'll blog once more tomorrow, and then you'll all have to talk to me in person about the trip. I plan on putting together a DVD complete with video and pictures, so contact me and we'll get together so you can see everything. On the blog, I only posted only my best pictures. There were a lot of great pictures I didn't post. So, adios from Alaska, and soon I'll be saying hello from Canada!
