Having heard of the dragon boat festival happening at Likas Bay, Nadiah and myself (Emma having headed off the church) decided to head that way via the Sunday Market on Gaya Street. As it was a nice day we decided to walk around the coast until we found the festivities. An hour and a half later, we arrived, a couple of cooked tourists and enjoyed the last few races of the morning.
The atmosphere was great with locals cheering on the Malaysian team in the international race and the police boat racing off the rescue one group of capsized competitors. Unenthusiastic about the prospect of walking back we headed for the nearest bus stop (which was without an inch of shade) and squeezed onto the vehicle when it pulled up. Crammed in we were unaware of the route the bus was taking and thinking we must be back in KK we hopped off when we could stand the conditions no longer. A quick scout of the map revealed we had gone a whole ½ mile before detouring away from the coastal road. Tempted by the air conditioned shopping centre up the road we decided to stop for a drink to consult the map.
Much refreshed and realising we had a good ½ hour walk ahead of us we set off to meet Emma at Jesselton Point for lunch. Together we headed for the centre of KK (KK 0 KM) where the tourist office is based and got some details on mountain climbing and the like.
A relaxing walk back to the hostel and I was ready for a shower and a nap before heading out for dinner (Sri Melaka again).
