We are relaxing in the Melbourne suburbs with my brother and his family, my mother is here and sister and nephew due tomorrow when Qantas fix the plane. Luckily it has been hot and sunny but about to break so will have to get out of shorts, Tshirts and flip flops soon for the first time in a month.

We are staying in a small apartment in a southern suburb near Brighton Beach. It is very disorientating in Melbourne as all the familiar English place names are here but in jumbled positions and nothing like their English namesake. They are avid followers of the English football leagues so if anything there is more football on TV here than even at home. Since we were last here 2 yrs ago prices have shot up and the exchange rate fallen, a real shock compared with Thailand, eg 1.5litres of coke here is about £3.50 compared with just under a pound in Thailand even in an expensive tourist area shop and £11 for a veggie wrap or burger for lunch and £20 for average main course at dinner. I suppose it's an opportunity to cut down so that the plane can take off to get us home on Tuesday.
