It is easy to see why the locals call this The Marvellous City as the iconic sugarloaf mountain and statue of Christ are spectacular both seen from the city and the views from the top.
The roads are crazy with many lanes packed with cars, taxis, vans and buses all weaving in and out at breakneck speed with less than inch to spare, horns blaring. Taxi rides are like hollywood car chases, disney rides and computer games all in one. One way roads aren't always marked so non locals find themselves wedged in narrow lanes the wrong way facing a line of impatient cars and having to reverse all the way back up, no pressure there then.
We have seen wild marmosets, macaws and toucans already and lots if small colourful birds, just like in the cartoon film Rio, the only film worth seeing on the flight over! By lical standards the weather is poor but altho cloudy its low 20s so we are in shorts and comfortable and so far no rain but storms are forecast.
The beef here is the best we have tasted, altho we have never been to Argentina so cant get into that local spat. Portions are gargantuan and we will have to start sharing a meal if we r not to double in size. There are so many fruits we have never heard of all made into delicious fresh juices and drinking coconut milk from a straw from a coconut on copacobana beach is heaven. After they split the husk and u scoop out the soft flesh, the perfect snack and drink in one for £1.20. We had a caipirinha on the beach, the local cocktail of limes, crushed with sugar and ice and sugar cane spirit. We were semi conscious for a couple of hours and slept like logs that night!
