Yesterday we went to the brazilian side of the falls. There is a 1km path with increasingly beautiful views of a long series of falls leading to the main falls at The Devil's Throat where the roar is deafening and even from the platform 100m away you get soaked with the spray. The volume and force of the water takes your breath away. In the afternoon we hiked 5km in the rain forest. It was 35C but the trees provided shade. There were gorgeous butterflies everywhere but it was too hot for other animals. We went on a jeep ride and a boat ride which we had to ourselves on the wide mirror-like shallow river above the falls and saw a caiman and were cast off in a kayak which was a bit worrying but the current just took us in circles and not over the falls as we feared. It was an exhilirating day and probably the best place we have ever seen on our travels.
Today we visited the Argentinian side where a platform takes you to the top of the Devils Throat which just takes your breath away and absolutely soaks you. We had just about dried in the intense heat when we took a boat ride under the falls. From the top it looks sheer madness as the boats look so small and they disappear into the spray but it was an unforgettable experience. Disney doesnt even get close and here they dont even strap you in!

Karen Hi Kate and Martin! OMG!! The pictures look fantastic and you're clearly having a wonderful time. I'm unspeakably jealous. I need to plan my retirement, now. Iguazu Falls sounds extraordinary. We were planning to go next year, but somehow our plans have been side-tracked by the Frozen Planet series and we might be heading to the far south of Chile and Antarctica instead. Looking at your pics though, perhaps we should think again. Life here is not quite so gorgeous. I've seen some of your follow ups and they miss you, almost as much as we do. I'm sorry I missed the last girlie night out. It's lovely reading your blogs. I'm so glad you're having such a good time. It does all look completely wonderful. You seem to be eating and drinking a lot! Lots of love, Karen
