So we're in our first week of the trip and it's great to finally be chilling out in Cancun. However, Dallas certainly was an interesting and fun way to start our adventure.
Our flight over was a grueling 15 and a half hours. Thankgod time was on our side and it went by relatively fast. We arrived in Dallas.......and had no idea where to go from there. We didnt think to print off directions to the hostel and of course noone at the airport knew where we should go. After an hour of travelling in the wrong direction and grovelling with computer shops for their internet use we finally made it to the hostel where we were greeted by Carlos, the hostel manager. After about 10 mins of getting settled Carlos packed us and 5 other people staying at the hostel into his SUV and carted us all off to a dirty mecican restaurant where he took the liberty of ordering for us all and were forced to eat playdough like enchiladas. This was fun, however after a long journey and no sleep it was a funny welcome to Texas.
The next day, we went into Dallas city centre where we checked a few tourist spots including: The JFK site where he was murdered, The first House to be built in Dallas, a museum and that was pretty much it. We took a tram to uptown which was a breath of fresh air after sweating for a couple of hours in the cement jungle of down town. Here we enjoyed a couple of refreshing ciders at a gorgeous tavern with a leafy beer garden.
We made it back to the hostel in time for Carlos to round us all up in his SUV like school children and taken to "The Red Boot" - a massive country and western style bar where you could have western dance lessons, ride a mechanical bull, play pool and get aquainted with cowboys....all of which we did. Lex tried his best with country dancing but couldn't quite grasp the, how do you say.... coordination. Yet he was a bit of a pro at the bull riding!! Go girl!! I was OK at the bull riding but on my second go got the bull horn caught in my boot where i was left tangling upside down. Lex was filming and thought it histerical and the operator was too busy watching the bar girls dancing on the bars. So i was left to try and pull myself off which was not lady like in the slightest. Thankgod it was dark and not too many people saw. Brian, our new cowboy besty invited us to stay on his ranch if we ever return to Dallas. Thanks but no thanks Brian!! He was your stereo typical Texan cowboy; Giant hat, tobacco spitting, big belted cowboy!!
We woke up the following day bright and early at 4pm. Yes, we slept through the whole day thanks to our good ol friend jet lag (and hangover). Alas, we were wide awake for our Texas Rangers Vs Oakland Athletics baseball game. This was a great experince and an interesting insight into the American sports atmosphere. The Rangers won 13-4 and we were treated to an awesome fireworks display too.
The following day we packed our bags and jumped on our flight to the beautiful Cancun, Mexico!!! Dallas was a fun way to start the trip yet probs wont be visiting there again anytime soon. I choose to not die of a heart attack thankyou!!! Food was terrible and water was doused in sodium!!
Update you soon with stories from Cancun!! Lots of love to all you gorgeous people!! xxxx
