From Siem Reap we took a 6 hour bus ride to the capital city Phnom Penh. I have learnt from this trip that capital cities are not for me. I dont like London for starters but at least i speak the language. Out here they are twice as dirty, twice as hot and twice as mental. I wont talk much about Phnom Penh except we went to the Genocide Museum and the killing Fields. For those that dont know, Cambodia was ruled for several years by a revolutionary party called the Kh mer Rouge, headed by Pol-Pot. These guys wanted to create a communist state where culture, education, religion and pretty much everything except work was outlawed. People were taken to be "re-educated" by the regime and never came back. People were singled out if they spoke a
different language to Khmer, had an education or even stuff like if they wore glasses. 100's of thousands of people were taken from there families, tortured, shot, worked to death, you name it. Hideous and utterly pointless. No one was safe, not even new born babies. The day touring around these places was truly humbling and tragic and difficult to believe only happened 40 years ago. Again the photos here will tell a thousand stories.
