BEACH!! YAY!!
Our first beach! It's not bad!
We left Father's in the Highlands to get the 9.00 am bus. Apparantally there isn't a bus at 9.00, so we had to wait until 11.00. We had a cup of tea, but it wasn't as niiiice as the one at the Boh plantation. Tea in Malaysia is really sweet and tastes a little like it has chocolate in it, a bit like a mocca.
A German couple, Frank and Christiana stated chatting to us. They didn't know where to go so we told them about Pangkor, and as we followed Hannah and John, they followed us. We changed buses at Ipoh to get to Lumut. The bus here had no aircon! The scenery was good and we saw a few traditional Malay houses on the route. We all sat by windows to cool down but when we got to Lumut Kat looked like she had been trucking with her red right arm. From Lumut we took a ferry to Pangkor, and then a taxi to Telah Nipah which is towards the north of the island and is supposed to have the nicest beach.
When we arrived we took ages to find a place to stay. Again accommodation is more expensive than we anticipated. Found a room for 3 for RM40 (8 pounds) a night with an "En-suite" although probably not as luxurous as you may be thinking, but that is the general way of the trip so we're used to it now. Bumped into a Scottish guy from the Cameron Highlands, Neil, and he was staying in the room next to ours. Went to get some food on the beach on dipped our toes in the sea for the first time!!
After dinner we bumped into a chap from Finland, we call MC Hammer because of the trousers he wears and his name was a little unpronouncable who was in our dorm at the Highlands. Then we bumped into Hannah and John too. We had a proper posse of 11 of us all of whom came from the Highlands. This seems to be the 'route' through this part of Malaysia.
The next two days were just spent lazing on the beach and doing a bit of swimming to cool down. Coop gets a bit bored so Coop and Kat built a fort for Naboo and Vince with a rubbish bucket and spade set. It was genius! Random people kept stopping by to say how good it was. Maybe a career change to property development is on the cards! The following day, and bored once more, Coop dug a huge hole, and then was promptly burried in it by Claire Kat and Neil!!
After the hard days graft we went to an all you can eat BBQ on the beach which had some great squid and fish, and the old favorites of beef and chicken burgers, and some great coleslaw oddly.
More travelling tomorrow to get to Penang and Georgetown.
