Later that evening we were to be graced with the presence of our first night visitor, the baboons were making a lot of noise getting ready for bed in the trees above our camp when Kaz getting up from the camp fire uttered the words “lion!”. It was dark by now and we were just preparing dinner, Kaz had seen a tail heading for the river so doing the sensible thing Paul grabbed the Magalite and headed down towards the river which was about 20m away from our camp fire, standing down there he shawn the torch out into the darkness and his heart took an extra beat as sitting in the grasses not more than 20m away was a lioness staring straight back at him!! Being sensible most of us were now down next to Paul which seemed to be enough for the lioness as she bounded away from the river up towards our camp, as we followed she disappeared into the darkness. I think all of our hearts were beating slightly faster, what an amazing start to our Chobe adventures!!
