White highrise is the Viru Hotel (still). During the soviet era, this was the official and only hotel for foreigners to stay at. The whole building was wired for sound and the KGB sat on the 23rd floor listening 24/7. There's a story that a Finnish actress ran out of loo roll and said 'to herself' - oh I wish I'd brought some extra with me... There was a knock within minutes with some loo roll provided.
