Hi everyone! We are now in Darwin having travelled up from the lovely Alice Springs on the Red Rocket tour. Had a very early start and were happy to see that there were only 12 of us on the tour instead of 24 so lots of leg room on the bus! Our first day was spent with a VERY VERY VERY long hike around Kings Canyon which was cool but bloody hard work! Our guide was so knowledgeable but his geology lessons were way over our heads we just knodded politely! Arrived at Ayres Rock (Uluru0 and watched the sunset before eating kangaroo steak - yum! and had an early night as we were waking up at 3 in the morning (can you believe it I am meant to be on holiday!!!) The next morning we watched Ayres Rock turn red in the sunrise (beautiful) before taking a slightly less gruelling hike around the base then went to see the Homer Simpson Rock (think it was called the Olgas but they looked like Homer lying down!) We then returned to Alice Springs and had a lovely dinner of Subway sandwiches and watched the Bill!!
The following morning at 5am we started the next part of our trip with a new guide - what a b****! The woman (if I can call her that) said that she did not want to be there and told us we were ruining her trip home to Darwin as we were too boring - like I said what a b****! The past 3 days were a real disappointment as we should have just flown from Alice Springs to Darwin as there was absolutely nothing to see in the 3 days besides petrol stations (seriously!) and various run down pubs. The Devils Marbles were the only highlight and we entertained ourselves taking photos of various naughty shaped rocks - well we had to find some entertainment! Oh the lovely guide also told us to swim in the beautiful waterhole at our campsite in Tenant Creek which turned out to be black water and which smelled of swamp!
We arrived in Darwin this afternoon and really like it. Everyone is really friendly and is it so nice to be in the city again. We are off on the final leg of the tour tomorrow to Kakadu National Park. Will write when we get back xx
