Today was a travel day - another 8 hours - but very different scenery particularly when we went passed the mountains that are called the gateway to the south - I was actually asleep as we went past them but I did photograph them from a far! We left the winding mountain roads for much straighter roads that cut through rolling savannah grasslands. Today we had breakfast at 7.15 and left a little later for the park, at 8.00am, as there was not a mad rush to find lemurs due to the excellent day yesterday. Our goal today was the other bamboo lemur the eastern grey bamboo lemur ( seen on lemur island at Vakona lodge - but not totally wild) and a nocturnal sportive lemur - hopefully out of a tree hole warming and dozing. Today we met Njavi for breakfast at 7am with departure for the rainforest - 2 minutes up the road at 7.30. Our driver had already collected the local guide, Stephan, from the village several kilometres away. At the park entrance we also met a young guy who was to be our spotter - he went ahead and looked for the lemurs while Stephan told us about the plant life. Today was a big travel day as we had to drive south to Ranomafana National Park. We left Antananarivo at 0830 and arrived at Ranomafana around 7pm. It was our first really cloudy day with several outbreaks of rain enroute and heavy rain at Ranomafana - but it is a rainforest! The journey enabled us to glimpse more rural life and we stretched our legs when we stopped for lunch at the second largest city Antsirabe as we explored the market and took a rickshaw ride...
