Hello (Ni Hao)!!
Believe it or not I started to write this postcard from a Hotel called Fawlty Towers in Yangshuo (South of China) and there is a receptionist called Manuel (he has been upgraded and is not a waiter anymore) and before you wonder nobody has smacked me on the head as yet.
After visiting Halong Bay in Vietnam I thought the scenery couldn't get any better but I was wrong.
Cheng Yang was the first destination in China and the scenery was already fantastic...and the food Mrs.Wu cooked for us was memorable.
Then we visited the Rice Terraces in Longji, very spectacular views and very cold too, there was no heating at the hotels so I had a bit of a taste about sleeping under zero conditions...it was brutally cold, day and night, althought the views were worth the pain...was so cold that even Andrew's alarm clock froze to death and started to make funny noises at 7am (something like the sound of a frog trying to impersonate Pavarotti himself) instead of the usual 7th of cavalry tune...
So if you fancy visiting that part of the world is much better to wait until summer time unless you want to be found in 300 years time by an mounteneering expedition in search for the "Yetty"...
Yangshuo is something else altogether, very spectacular scenery too with 25,000 karsts scattered around (that's funny shape mountains to you and me) also has got plenty of handcraft shops and brand "fake" shops too where you can buy almost everything for a fraction of the price after practicing the national sport here...bargaining!
Not only shops, they got amazing restaurants with oriental and western food too to replenish your belly after a long sightseeing day.
Looks like I'm getting paid by Yangshuo Cultural House (Josep & Marta, your regards where passed to Mr.Wei and he sends them back!!!...small world eh!) but for me that place is perfect in every sense.
After that we had to endure a 16 hour train journey to get to Hong Kong and end that way the so called Trail of the Dragon (that means going from Bangkok to Hong Kong throught north Tailand, Laos,North Vietnam and South of China) a real good experience. (If anybody interested go to Intrepid.com and see what they can offer).
Today is a bit sad because I had to say goodbye to my travel companions so Andrew,Callum, Nicola, Amber, Geff, Anne, Mike ,Lisa...farewell,see you soon and I hope you all have a good life!! (Well, technically is not true because we are going to celebrate my birthday altogether on tuesday here in Hong Kong but for postcard reasons I just say "Adeu" now...)
Hope you enjoy the pictures and many thanks to everybody for following the trip and special thanks to the "new additions" I am over the moon with your messages, they are worth milions to me!!
Fins aviat,
Jordi
P.S. Joan & Eva, el Francesc m'ha donat la gran noticia...moltes felicitats!!!!!
