Flores is a very small island within a lake. It takes 25 minutes to walk around it, thats how small. All the buildings are colourful, much like Cuba. Picturesque island with cobble roads, tuk tuk and cheap street food. Our hostel in Flores, 'Los Amigos' was a great hostel. It was the place to be in Flores, even the locals came to our hostel to eat and party. The communal garden area was really pretty with all cool seating areas, lighting and decor. This hostel wasn't on Hostelworld so I had to book via email, good job I did as it was fully booked for those who turned up. The hostel had a mini club/bar upstairs and a cinemas. Met two Swiss guys back in Cancun, the same time we met Seb. They have also joined us to do Guatemala together. Both are funny guys and we hope to spend most of our central trip together. We had a heavy night together the night before we had to leave at 8am for a 12 hours bus. We are so stupid as we were all so hungover. Although, it was a fun night. We went out the hostel to party with the locals and listen to Spanish music. I loved it. We were buying litre size bottled beer for £1.50, and we still moan about how much we spend.

We all did the Tikal Ruin tour together. 4:30am start wasn't the best idea as at best we all only had 4 hours sleep. It was the best option after all, as when we was walking back on our tour to the mini vans, the Tikal site began to get very busy, so we missed the peak period. Tikal ruin is the second largest in Guatemala. The largest one is mainly just a pyramid and Tikal is much prettier and more set up for the tourist.

The tour guide we had was a balsy guy. He picked up this huge tarantula and tried to get people to hold it. I was lining up to hold it and he stopped as he needed to continue with the tour. To be honest, I wasn't confident to hold it. We walked through the forest to see all the different Mayan ruin sites. We saw these black monkeys that sound like dinosaurs. In fact, in Jurassic Park they recorded these moneys for the sounds for the dinosaurs in the film, extremely loud. Saw an array of animals when walking through. I ate some ants that tasted like mud, not great.
